I know this is a blokey board so not many people probably watched it but I can officially say I am scared! The girl that had to have a c-section and you could see her shaking with fear and then she couldn't see her baby for 6 hours after the operation, it was awful. Please, let me have an easy birth and if possible pain free.

Although I didn't see the programme, I know how hard it is for people to deal with something like that.

Don't be worried Catherine, I'm sure the pregnancy and the birth will be easy (well as easy as is possible)

Catherine, I know it's easy to say but just try & not get too scared by that programme, although that girl did have to have a c-section doesn't mean you will. I'm sure it will all go fine for you.

I agree, last thing you wanna do in 'your condition' is wind yourself up over things you have no control over. I do hope everything goes well for you, but even if it doesn't and a c-section is required, its not the end of the world. Someone close to me had one, and is fine. You get a bonus few weeks sitting about on the sofa while you repair. They don't cut you open for kicks, if they do it'll be for the best, and chances are all will still be fine.

Please, do try not to worry about it.

I know, she was having a contraction and he blew up a glove and was poking her with it and when she tried to quickly go tothe toilet inbetween contractions he locked her in the toilet. What a knob. I'm not that bad, I do know it will hurt but it has to end at some point. I recorded it and got Topher to watch it when he got back from whiff whaff, it's a good show I just didn't like the midwife pulling the baby out instead of doing a final push, ouchie.

I can't understand why anyone would allow cameras into such a private stage of their lives. You couldn't pay me any amount of money to want that. That said, it was interesting but I am a little weary about watching it before the birth.

Tough. :P I think it's great. I don't know why that mum let her 18 year old son be a birthing partner though, why would you want your son to be looking at your fanny?

And this is one of the many, many reasons why I am childfree! I have had tons of surgery, but...yikes. That said, if I had a scrap of maternal instinct I'm sure I'd man up (bad choice of words in the circumstances) and get thru childbirth, I don't think the pain would stop me.

Missed it. Saw Carrie tweeting about it though.

As I consistently tell parents, childbirth is the easy bit. Sure, it's physically exhausting and painful but that's nothing compared to the physical AND mental anguish of actually raising the kid. Childbirth ends eventually, you'll have that mental anguish even after they've moved out and into the big bad world on their own. It's only the fact that if you do it right it is BY FAR the most rewarding thing you'll ever do in your life is that makes it worthwhile.

Use that one the next time there's a smart arsed father who thinks he's got it easy.

I kept telling Nix being kicked in the nuts is worse than childbirth!

Turns out raising children is worse than being kicked in the nuts(plus they seem to have an uncanny knack of kicking you in the nuts every couple of weeks anyway)

The best thing you can do to avoid a c section is to keep on your feet and moving around for as long as possible - and when you do have to sit or lie down, never never never on your back. If you do that, the baby's head will - well for the sake of squeamish people I won't go into detail, but it makes it far more likely that the baby will get stuck if you try to deliver lying on your back.

As for pain free, the only thing that will guarantee that is a spinal or epidural. And that in its turn makes the likelihood of needing a c section much greater.......the pain is just a fact of life that you have to deal with best you can Cat. Keep an open mind and decide about what you want in the way of pain relief when you have to, because you can't possibly know how you're going to cope before it happens. I found I could manage on gas and air only, but I felt very strongly beforehand that I didn't want anything else. If you don't have those strong feelings, just go with the flow and if you want it, ask. Loudly!

There was this episode on the other day, with this red haired girl called Sam, it was such a difficult program to watch.

Me and an abnormally large number of my friends were born by c-section and we're all fine, as were the mothers. If my mum came on here (god forbid) she'd tell you herself, as someone who's had children both ways, it's no where near as bad as they make out on tv, even in documentries.

If there are any complications with the baby then a c-section will usually be better for the baby. I was breech, but they didn't do one for my mum cos they were very rarely performed back in those days, and thus I was born with a dislocated hip which has given, and will give, me grief for my whole life. These days they'd just do the c-section and all would most likely be fine.

She was over dramatic. She obviously hadn't been to a single antenatal class, she didn't even know how to breath. Her screaming, shouting, hyperventilating and stressing sent her baby into stress. She's lucky her baby is alive and emergency surgery is available so easily in this country.

I did think it was a bit over-reacting, I know that it is very painful for women, but not that painful.
