...to all my fellow Scots, from a very freezing St Andrews. :D

It's a pity it's rather a forgotten holiday, but I guess Burns Night gets all the traditions. Neither are a national holiday though. :(

Still can't get Chris's impression of her out my head though.

Oh aye, I had a perfectly normal day at work. I honestly did more for St Patrick's Day. This is quite possibly the most uninspiring "day" on the calendar. The Scottish Government made a half arsed attempt at making it worth something, while the natives couldn't give a toss.

I haven't met anyone today who even mentioned it was St Andrew's Day today. Every single person I've seen mention it has been online. And the majority of them have been non-Scots wishing US a happy St Andrew's Day.

Maybe we should move it to a warmer month.

Dundee isn't far away (and my Mum works there), but nope, I've never lived there. I've lived in (or very close to) St Andrews since I moved up to Scotland as a nipper. So I'm not Scottish really, but I don't consider anywhere else home as much as this.

I love St Andrews Day, but understandably we do make more of it here. I went to an impressive projection display at the ruined cathedral last night (with some sneaky port to keep me warm) and there was lots more going on, including a street ceilidh, torchlit procession, markets (in the daytime) etc. I think they made an extra effort this year because of the Homecoming, but I hope if it's a success we'll get something similar next year.

It's also our Graduation Day for postgraduate students, so there's a lot going on at the Uni as well.

I think it's the perfect time of year actually. Especially when it's a lovely cold but crisp sunny day/starry night (shame about the almost full moon) like we had yesterday. And I consider it the perfect way to end the pre-Christmas period. The very next day you've entered December and looking forward to the next (and best) winter celebration. :D

I've just realised, you might have been thinking of my being a Dundee Utd supporter (which came about cos a friend of mine had no one to go to matches with).

Well he's not considered a Scot or anything like that, as far as I know.

He was one of the 12 apostles, was reportedly crucified on an X-shaped cross because he didn't consider himself worthy of imitating Jesus' crucifiction, and his relics were later taken to Scotland (and the town they were taken to was named after him). That's as much as I know off the top of my head. :)

It wasn't a link, it was just me trying to be funny and hide the possibly controversial dig at the bible. You know what these religious types are like.

Dunno, never read it. I'm only guessing the son of God is in there somewhere.

I read the Book of Job once when bored in a hotel room in Aberdeen. I didn't think it put God across in a very good light really - bit of a dick in fact.

When my nana died earlier this year we went through her stuff. In among that stuff was the smallest bible I have ever seen. There was a page folded down at the corner, so I opened it up and read the first bit I saw.

"And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and he prayed saying, O"

I didn't know it was a comedy.

I kept the bible.

Oh that's disappointing. I was hoping you were referring to a saint who had done something historically proven. :(

I can think of one though... Saint Margaret (Queen of Scotland). She was great.
