I think there is a reason why the Golden Hours only go back to 1989 / 1990......... I was still shitting in my nappies in 1971, and I am ancient! My tip, pick years we might actually have listened to the music.

See Bob, I think you're missing the point there, the whole reason these threads started was because some comment was made about the golden hour on the show didn't go early than 1990.

Have a look at this list - you telling us you don't know a good number of the songs?

But just because you weren't born (or were only just born) doesn't mean you won't have heard the music. I like the earlier years.

Oh man, I love Ernie The Fastest Milkman. I wasn't born in 1971, but it was on an album called All Aboard I had when I was a kid. It had My Brother by Terry Scott and Right Said Fred by Bernard Cribbins on it too - classics.

Anyway. Brown Sugar by Rolling Stones for me.

Ain't No Sunshine - Bill Withers

I had a look at the list on Wikipedia and there were a lot of good songs that year, as well as a few certain obvious ones that (in some cases fortunately) haven't been added to this so far.

Blimey this was a year of appalling music with only a few bright spots! Here's one though - The Who, won't get Fooled Again.

I get to nominate for once! :D

When I saw this song in the list of 1971 hits...I HAD to include it! The only song where you will hear the words 'his daddy would use him for alligator bait' I guarantee :)

Jerry Reed - Amos Moses

Ok I stand corrected.

That link zoot was excellent, if those were put up it would help!

Ok John Lenon Imagine is a classic, as are don mcleans American Pie and Vincent.

But I think my favorite is Leonard Cohen and famous blue raincoat, music to slit your wrists by ( to be more effective cut down the arm not across, as cutting across can lead the veins to ping back up your arm and actually stem the blood)

Poll is up - I've included both John22 and pjordan2000's options, as they're different versions of the same song.

Did you know Jimmy Page improvised the solo on the spot? It's an awesome solo too.

At the original recording he had done quite a number of takes before deciding on the best (each of these takes were variations on linking the pre-prepared sections of the solo).

I've gone through phases of like/indifference with this song in general but am always in awe of the timelessness and restrained genius of that solo, and so gets my vote. (for fans of Zep, this is my favourite youtubed performance of "since I've been loving you" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aixZ3wqOis .You're most welcome.)

Thanks for the link, that's just plain awesome. When you Page play is obvious he's not just playing a learnt riff or chord sequence, he's feeling the moment. It all seems so fluid and tight.

That gave me goose bumps.

Stairway for me too. It's not my favourite Led Zep song, but it's the clear winner this week. I do always think of the Rolf Harris version tho, especially the bit where he sings "ooh, and it makes me wonder" and then turns to the backing band and goes "how does it affect you blokes?" And also there's the Wayne's World guitar shop scene..."no Stairway...denied!"

Damn, I was too late for this. Although I would have done with Rod Stewart - Maggie May. I'm surprised no-one else used it, it's a cracker!

Although, Yuds wins my vote this week. That song's a belter!
