You'll probably get a better response in the Sounds forum.

Ive had so little time at home. any editing stuff ive wanted to do I can do at work. I just need to get my hands on a Windows ME installation disk, then I (should) be sorted!.....are they expensive?

IF you buy Windows ME. If you know someone with ME you could always borrow that....

Yeah. I've never bought an OS in my life. It's a waste of money when you can get stuff like linux for free, so I normally just get a copy from someone. The only OS we actually bought was DOS but that came with our first PC.

okay, I'll just find someone with ME then. Methinks me neighbours have it...

Not that I know much when it comes to the world of Windows, but why not go the whole hog and install W2K professional if you can find that instead? - jc

good thinkage.......but with the way my dad thinks and works, he'd think with all the change I've infected it with some virus or something. It'll just be easier for me to keep with ME. And like I said, I think my neighbours have that anyway.

W2K can cause problems though as it's based on NT - you'd be better off going with XP

ah...I've got a friend who's got that too. I'll give ME a shot first though.

Probably safer to stick with ME - XP can be a pain to set up as if memory serves you often have to find updated drivers for your devices...

I don't like XP. I have got used to Windows 2000 recently, we use it at school and it's installed on the computer at my youth club (I just like it because I, along with someone else, is the only person with Administrator privilages!)

As far as home computing goes - stick with ME. Although Windows 98 is probably the most stable I have come across.

I think I would rather use 98 than ME. Granted, I've never used ME but my ultra-computer-geek mate at Norwich knows everything there is to know about the Windows OS, and his top 5 would be 1. XP, 2. 2000, 3. 98, 4. 95, 5. ME. ME is extremely unstable apparently.

They installed XP at college, hate it. Probably because they have blocked EVERYTHING you want to do, can't change resolution, (annoying because on the computer I use everything is mini,) can't right click, can't do this, can't do that. It seems to me like Windows 98 but with a 'pretty' (yeah - pretty minging) colour scheme.

98 is probably the most stable and wel supported. NT / 2000 can be a real pain in the arse - there's not much point in using them unless you're running a network anyway. XP is good but as I mentioned earlier you need to update drivers etc which can be a pain. I've not used ME so I can't comment. Stick with 98 SE and you can't go far wrong in my opinion.

Of course, if you're got the time to set it up, there's always Linux....

XP is also based on the nt kernel. they half heartedly tried to adhere the 9X and nt line together

ME is the biggest load of steaming donkey pooo i have ever seen. More crashes than a scoda test site

The only reason I didn't advise installing XP was because of its awful, awful Product Activation malarky. Just say no, kids. - jc

Way to to Sidla - are you trying to get busted?!

ive got ME and ive never had a problem with it but computers can be weird and mess some people around so i spose it depends.

our school have blocked EVERYTHING now too. they have several network technitions sitting in a room all day with blacked windows monitering what everyone does!!!! :? slightly scary. but they had to because we found a weakness in the old system and everyone started hacking into the school files in the teachers areas.

i cant search for red hot chili peppers because the filter detects "hot". its a disgrace.

anyway, back to the topic - anybody know the music yet?

Had this been the general board, I wouldn't have said that. But I think I can trust you guys. You can't honestly tell me that no-one else just borrows the installation CD of their mate can you?

What's the deal with your sig anyway? How did you manage to do that?

I can't honestly tell you that I don't "borrow" CDs, I just won't admit it ;)

I'll leave you guessing re the sig ;)

When I was at school just after they'd implemented this new filter proxy, I discovered annoying glitches like not being able to access URLs containing the word do*ent. Filtering software doesn't solve anything. - jc
