Isn't Setanta cheaper than Sky Sports, which you also have to pay even if you have sky? Setanta is also available to Freeview users with the Top-up TV thing.

They couldn't afford it.

Setanta cost us £ 9.99 monthly. Apart from the 40 odd Premiership games the rest of the schedule was pants. I had to cancel subscription after 3 months because their bandwidth/reception was appalling. They needed to find 50million by a deadline for Premiership matches but couldn't. I'm assuming the Premiership will put the 46 game schedule back up for auction.

I don't think the BBC would prepared to pay for Premiership matches, especially given the attention on staff salaries and pay cuts at the moment and ITV can't afford it, aren't they suffering at the moment?

ITV are suffering so badly at the moment that the BBC has to pay for a regional news channel for them (looks like London Tonight, Granada Reports, etc will be off ITV 1 in future then). Not only that BBC Worldwide has to prop up Channel 4 as well.

I'm really hoping that BBC or ITV go for it. Preferably BBC but I'll put up with ITV if it means it comes to terretrial TV. It will only be a few games anyway. The setanta matches for next season were split into 2 packages and have gone up for auction to the highest bidder, to be decided on Monday. Sky can bid for one package and will probably get it, leaving just the one package for another channel.

I think BBC would go for it, even if they put the games on BBC3 or Red Button.

ITV supposedly have no money and yet they started putting out a long and expensive looking ad campaign for their own channel, on their own channel (thus losing any potential income from selling that advertising time) and they even have the ad running in cinemas.

You in need of a laugh then Zenon?

I hated Setanta's coverage of the football (probably due to the fact that the first match I watched was Arsenal lose the Semi Final of the FA Cup). I still feel Sky Sports continues to show best coverage with the best commentators on TV followed by BBC (with Radio 5 Live Commentary).

Thankfully though, I was about to cancel Setanta but now they aren't collecting subscriptions, I get to watch the Arsenal TV Channel for free until futher notice! :-)
