Thankfully that's not the way I'm going to die, even if I don't diet.

Well done! Thats a significant amount - good news. I think I need to get the Wii Fit thing. My hairdresser was singing its praises this morning, although she said the hula-hoop exercise has left her aching....!

Fantastic S4B, that's really good news! I was sorting out my wardrobe at the weekend and found a suit I wore to work last summer with a 42" waist. I now wear a 38". I was chuffed with that.

Mr Yudster bought four pairs of trousers after Christmas and he could only get into one of them. He was too lazy to take them back, but he tried them on again yesterday and they all fit really well.

Have you been cracking the weight loss whip in your household then?

Not at all - he hasn't even been dieting, he's just been playing a lot of squash, racketball and cricket in the last few months. To be honest, I hadn't even noticed he'd lost weight - I'm ashamed of myself!

Well, he's got the final of our squash club championship tomorrow night, so lets hope his game is as healthy as his BMI!

Mrs B has lost 11lb in a couple of weeks on the eat lettuce from the garden with everything and no boose diet, seriously we had lettuce with Roast the other day, it was surprisingly nice. (I have found I like warm salad, even had roasted Raddish tyhe other day!)

I love warm salad. I make a dressing with Puy lentils and bacon warmed through in a balsamic vinaigrette and pour that over shredded lettuce and tomatos. When you mix it all up the lettuce just wilts a tiny bit but stays crispy, and the tomatos get all juicy and lovely......Right, I know what's for lunch today!

With croutons - you need the croutons for that crunch factor.

Not when you're on a diet you don't.

Stupid question du jour - is bread fattening? I only ask because (apart from the fact that I'm clueless) Stephen Fry attributes his significant recent weight loss to cutting out bread and pasta, as well as the gym. I had no idea bread was potentially bad for you.

Well, bread is low fat, but it is all carbohydrate. Its not particularly calorific in small quantities - it averages around 100 per slice I suppose. But pure, refined carbohydrates aren't the best thing to eat lots of and if they form the bulk of your diet then you probably are having too much. White bread particularly is often referred to as "empty calories" - ie apart from the energy, there isn't really anything there of nutritional value. Better to eat a piece of fruit which might have slightly more calories in it, but also has natural fibre, vitamins, enzymes, minerals, anti-oxidants etc.
