The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

It wasn't aimed directly at you, it's just something I've noticed multiple people here do over time. As I said, I'm never sure if people say stuff like 'that doesn't make any sense' in reply to something that isn't really that difficult to decipher because they really mean it or not. I wasn't making any judgement on that.

This isn't to say I want txt spk on here. In fact, quite the opposite. As well as it being simply part of the rules, it is annoying to read and doesn't speed up either the writing or reading.

I agree with almost everything you've said. However, I don't think the hate that you (and I) feel towards that type of writing should be directed towards people who use it.

From memory, people have usually said that they don't understand posts due to horrendous grammar which completely garbles the meaning of their message.

To be honest I'm getting tired with the fact that every topic inevitably turns into several pages of criticizing people's spelling and grammar, and I've only been here a few weeks. It's starting to get ridiculous.

EDIT: Edited for spelling and grammar. Oh, the irony.

Can someone PLEASE explain why, if you don't like the forum or the people on the forum, you keep coming back? I went to Unofficial Mills once and I thought it was awful. I had a choice - join up and keep posting about how dreadful it is, or not join up and leave it to the people who enjoy it. The first option is stupid, so I did the second. Why can't people do that here?!

It's nothing new, and it isn't staring to get ridiculous. What is ridiculous is that you are complaining about something which has been going on and has been very visible since long before you joined the forum. Nevertheless you decided to join, and now eleven posts later you're bitching about it.

As I posted elsewhere, the internet is a very big place, and this is one corner where spelling and grammar happens to be held in high regard. If you don't like that, do something about it. (By the way, whining is not doing something about it.)

I like Tilly, but it reminds me of our old dog.

That's the problem with certain names with certain people, if they're connected to a pet, every time you hear that name you instantly think of that pet. However anything is better than Apple, Fifi Trixibell & Moon Unit 8O

I've never had a pet. Apart from a snail I got from the garden and fed on lettuce. It was called Slowly.

I don't think many people will be given that name. ;)

The name Tilly reminds me of Tots TV. I'm fairly certain I only saw that because I have wee sisters as I was getting a bit old for such kids shows by then.

Bugger, the theme tune's stuck in my head now. I'm a tot, je suis une tot, Tilly, Tom and Tiny...

Right then, who wants to see my sac magique?!

Well, I've seen Tots TV and if you're too old for it, I certainly am! I have no idea why I would know what it is if it's that recent. Anyway...Tilda..not sure about that name. Ruby's my middle name, so I definitely prefer that.

I hope they got the name from the acclaimed actress Tilda Swinton rather than the rice..............and I approve of putting the full name on the birth certificate even if you know it probably won't get used. Pretending that contractions, abbreviations and nicknames are real names is a pet hate of mine.

In 1993 I was at uni and my bro at high school, so I still have no idea why I knew what Tots TV is. Strange.

And yeah, I agree with that thing about pretending abbreviations of names are real names. Very annoying. I note that Dave mentioned Tilda Swinton in a Tedious about 2 months ago...I wonder if that planted the idea in Dom's head? I work with a girl who recently called her baby Matilda Rose, and it was only when I pointed it out that people realised she's christened it exactly after Heath Ledger's daughter without realising. His and the baby's names were in the news so much last year I think the name just lodged itself into her subconscious.

Amber Isabella I believe. Amber is common and Isabella isn't a name so much as an unfinished question.
