I always feel sorry for the 2nd team in the lower leagues. Where's their trophy? You get a trophy for winning the league. Deservedly so, you were the best team of the 24. But you get a trophy for winning the playoff too. The only reason you were in the playoffs was that you weren't good enough to win the league, and weren't even good enough to be second. And in the case of the the fourth tier, third.

You should get a shield or something. The way the 2nd placed F1 driver gets something. Not as big as the winner's, but still something.

Do they not get anything? That is a bit harsh.

Good to see Aberdeen getting a cheeky wee Europa League spot there, somehow.

Shame to see Newcastle relegated, but they truly are shit. So many big names but they just cannot rustle up a single good performance. Hull were lucky to survive the drop too, seeing as they won once in their last 22 games! I just hope Newcastle don't do a Leeds and drop to League 1 next year which I can kind of see happening.

All in all a fairly good season for my teams. St. Johnstone promoted finally to the SPL and Liverpool putting in a decent title challenge, showing they're a force to be reckoned with next year!

Vamos!

Bye Bye Newcastle.

I never normally gloat at a team going down, but seriously, that team was up it's own arse. I think a season or two down in the Championship may make them build their team up again and once promoted back to the Premiership be a real contender for the top half.

Gutted for Middlesborough, very pleased for Hull, ecstatic about Newcastle. No more than they deserve.

The most aggrieved would be MK Dons who finished a healthy 3rd whereas Scunthorpe who finished 6th with 11 fewer points actually get promotion. I'm not bitter mind.

I bloody would be. I think the playoff system is disgraceful and bad for the game.

Yes I'm sure it is. And yes I know that it can be argued that the money is GOOD for the game, but I'm an old fashioned Luddite when it comes to football (which is strangely helpful when you support Colchester United) and I get grumpy when money has to be considered before competition. Which is why I spend much of every football season being a grumpy observer.

Its going to be a bit "manager musical chairs" in the next few weeks though. I predict Gordon Strachan will end up at Sunderland. Although I reckon Steve Coppell would do a better job for them long term I don't think he'd be regarded as high-profile enough. I heard this morning that Shearer is likely to sign a four year contract at Newcastle - I almost hope its true, just so that it can be finally demonstrated to the Newcastle fans that it takes more than a beloved ex-player to sort out the kind of problems they have there.

And that's all before the players start shifting around. I suppose a lot of focus will be on what happens to Tevez and Ronaldo - I wouldn't be surprised if one or both of them move on, but it might depend on what happens tomorrow to some extent. I think Arsenal will be an interesting one to watch. I can see Obafeme Martins wanting a move from Newcastle and he might be a good buy for them.

I'm quite looking forward to seeing how it all pans out!

I'm looking forward to the comedy of links that Celtic will get now.

Today's is supplied by the Guardian. Big Phil Scolari. Yeah right, like he'd go to Celtic. Even if he did, he's already proved at Chelsea he may not be suited to the British style of football. And we have a, ahem, great history when it comes to Brazilians. They really are Scheidt when they come to us.

play offs are bad in some ways, ie if you finish 3rd and dont get promoted, but it gives more teams more to play for and makes the league more competitive. if it was just top 3 promoted then it would be rubbish i think, whereas if there are 4 play off places savailable there is more chance for more teams to be in those spots. xx x xx x xxx x

The final tonight was great! Man Utd. really did look threatening as the game opened, but after Eto'o scored against the run of play, that all changed!

As I was sitting in a bar in Spain watching this game it was a magnificent spectacle and it was great to see Barcelona win the Champions' League, thoroughly deservedly so too.

Forza Barca!

I'm just glad its over. I'd have preferred United to win, but there's just too much tension and anxiety attached to events like that to make them in any way enjoyable to me. Thank goodness that Mr Yudster's reaction to it was "Ah well, can't win em all" - although I think he was trying to be brave!

So - FA Cup? Come on Everton.

Noel Gallagher once said 'There's nothing better than seeing a fat geordie crying on match of the day'. Well I think seeing the desolite figures of Rooney, Ronaldo, Neville, Ferdinand and of course Ferguson is the greatest sight in the world.

'Man Utd can be the first team to win back to back Champions League titles'. Ha, I don't think so, Ferguson may have caught up with league titles but the european Cabinet is still a bit empty.

As for Saturday as a Red I don't want Everton to have sucess, but the thought of Terry, Drogba, Cole losing the final is too strong for me. Come on you blue nose.

I'd like to think that now ends the longest running joke in World Football - Cristiano Ronaldo the Best Player in the World.

Not a chance in hell. Never has been, never will be. Sure he's got the skills when he wants, but far too often he disappears when it really matters against the big teams. I've seen him in person three times against Celtic (and lets face it we're not a big team as much as I wish we were) and three times he's been anonymous. He was anonymous in Euro 2008 last summer and he was anonymous last night too. He's a petulant little tube to boot, who throws tantrums like a child when things don't go his way. So he's hardly a role model.

There are better players with better attitudes out there. Lionel Messi is the one that springs to mind usually and I would tend to agree that he's both more naturally gifted and a better attitude - the guy gets kicked the length of the park frequently and he invariably gets up and tries to skin whoever just booted him.

But then I wouldn't say he's the best player in the world either. I'd be more inclined to go for Xavi or Iniesta. There's a reason Barcelona have the Champions League trophy on the sideboard today. It's the same reason Spain have the European Championship trophy. Those two, playing in the same team, are virtually unstoppable.

What I have no doubt about now is the best player in the World at the moment is a Barcelona player. I'm just not sure which one. It certainly isn't the number seven at Man United. Personally, I don't think he's even the best player at Man United! I'd have Rooney before Ronaldo any day. He might be another "petulant little tube", but I haven't seen him hide in a big game yet. Whether that be at Celtic Park on the Olympic Stadium in Rome.

Absolutely. For all the press frenzy about the possibility of Ronaldo leaving, all the United fans I know are pretty calm about that prospect. However none of them would sit quietly if there was a hint that Rooney was off. And most of them it seems to me would be keener to keep hold of Tevez than Ronaldo if they had to choose. I don't know if the ones I know are completely typical of United's fans, but to me they seem to prefer the grafting type - and above all they really only want players at the club who give the impression of really wanting to be there rather than anywhere else. Not that they don't like Ronaldo, but Rooney would leave a much more difficult hole to fill.

I think Utd fans are over that possibility, and if they got ribery in they would have an able replacement who is humble : something they need once tevez leaves.

Rooney's not only personality wise unique : but he plays a very interesting role on the pitch that can't be replaced easily up front, Ronaldo's breed of player is certainly hard to find, but in no way unique

I agree. I'm not sure about Ribery though. I like his type of player but I'm not sure he's all that good. I know he had an excellent European Championships, but after that he was a bit anonymous.

I was just wondering yesterday - does anyone know why Dave supports Everton?
I thought he was a Manchester lad.
