I'm guessing/hoping there was some implied sarcasm with that comment about the media knowing what they're doing...

The official statement from the Beeb says that Ross is pleased about the decision as it means "he gets his weekends back". I know he has a young(ish) family so that's plausible, but somehow I doubt he is pleased. His tweets always sound full of enthusiasm about going off to do his show on a saturday morning.

That said, I can't stand Jonathan Ross.

There are a lot of things and people out there, free to say and do and be what they want, that I absolutely loathe - but like you, I don't think censorship is the right response.

I have a feeling that the people to whom you are referring are of the more extreme type who would be driven underground and likely gain a lot more support if they were censored... as opposed to Jonathan Ross, who is nothing like that. That said, I also disagree with the censorship of both.

One of the reasons for the switch, I think, was because Ross wanted his weekends back. I suppose he might have just said that after he found out to save face though.

I hardly think he just "found out". He'll have been in the decision meetings, and will have come up with that line as part of the roll-out strategy.

Turning off works as well as anything, but popular culture these days is such that you can never get away from this kind of thing completely. As for moving country - well, for all its appalling faults, I'd still rather put up with the media in this country than in most others. You think its bad here, you should go to - well pretty much anywhere else. What a sad commentary on the world!

Personally I don't care what they do with Moyles. If they take him off the Breakfast Show, or he chooses to go, he'll get a gig elsewhere with no trouble at all, and I'll just listen to him there.

I listen to Radio 1 because Moyles is on it, I don't listen to Moyles because he's on Radio 1.

As for Jonathan Ross, I wouldn't shed any tears if he was found trussed up in the bottom of a canal with a variety of fruit stuffed into his orifices. What I vehemently object to is the way the fascist * in certain sections of the press will claim this as a moral victory.

So would I - but I can't help thinking that the Radio 1 breakfast show might easily be the last radio job he has. I mean where else is there to go? He doesn't seem to be the type to go backwards, and there isn't really anything else that he hasn't already done - my only hope is that he will get snapped up by Radio 2 because whilst that isn't the R1 breakfast show, it is something he hasn't done before and Radio 2 is currently the most listened to radio station of any (someone from the bbc told me yesterday).

Radio 2 would be my guess - and hope - too. I think it's been the most listened to station in the country consistently for a long time now.

The trouble is that Chris has discredited all other options on his show. He constantly takes the piss out of commercial radio and seems to think that Radio 2 is too old for him.
I can't really think where he would go but I hope his career stays with radio.

I hate this phrase, the fact that people keep moaning about the licence fee really gets on my goat, what would you achieve taking away the licence fee, answer, another version of ITV which is something NO ONE wants!

The BBC is one of the best things about Britain. To get rid of the license fee would be to ruin a fantastic national institution.
