And while you're doing that, Mr Bossman, sack Carrie. Her wage, when Dom would be able to read the sports news more than adequately necessary, is almost as bad as 'Inside Sport' sending a production team out to the US to record an Agassi/Graff interview, ten days before the pair came over here for a tennis match. Unbe-expenses-claiming-lievable.

Moyles has always had a Newsreader & Sports reader, even on the afternoon show. The only time when news used to read out news & (brief) sport was the 3:30pm buletin. Mark & Lard used to only have the one reading both, it seems that between the hours of 6:30am-9:30am & 4:30pm - 5:45pm (at least) they have both a Newsreader & Sports reader. All other times it's one doing.

It should also be pointed out that "Set" newsreaders were onyl introduced around April 2002, that's when Georgina Bowman became Moyles' full time newsreader.

Before that it was anyone from Claire Kavaner (sp - Christ knows how to spell her surname), Carolyn Atkinson, Dominic Byrne, Claire Bradley & several others. Names I remember from reader news and/or sport include; Matt Williams, Arlow White, Alister Yeoman, Jonathon Wall, Colin Harrison, David Croft, Andrew Carter, Phillip Studd, David Gorido & Trudie Barber, to name a few.

Don't know how many on that list still work there though?

Excellent work there, the only one you've missed off is (my personal fave in 1999/2000) Claire Kavaner, but I believe she's now working on Sunrise Or Kismet Radio as a reporter, don't know if anyone can vouch for that though?

All of those are on shows in the archive, so I've probably missed off a few names from 1999-2002. Carolyn Atkinson always had a voice suited to Radio 4 & it's nice to see that alot of the Sports readers now work on Radio 5 live & that some are now producers/directors

Thank you. Yes it seems Newsbeat really is a spring board to success. A friend of mine's sister reads the news on the god awful (though she is very good) Leicester Sound Breakfast Show. Newsbeat is her top aim. I've always been a fan of it. Just the right level of formality, good standard of newsreaders, good length plus I like Chappers and the du du du du jingles.

Good luck to your friends sister, Newsbeat do seem to be a great news team to work for. I've always liked Newsbeat (although Howard Hughes & Russ Kane on Chris Tarrant's Capital FM Breakfast show were great as well, haven't a clue where they are now, although I remember London Tonight reporting on both leaving Capital FM after about 10-15 years service each).

Dominic must be the longest serving newsreader on Newsbeat now, surely, he's been there since (at least) September 1997 (Frothy Bevvy anyone )

Whatever it says about you it also says about me cos I also assumed "he"! Sorry guys. PLEASE in4308 put us out of our misery - are you a he or a she?

Misery? I hadn't given it another thought! Makes no difference to me either way........
#387268
At least that would give them something interesting to talk about............

Blimey, a new member using full sentences. Welcome to the forum, and for what it's worth I agree with both points.

After the awkwardness of the guy who left to go to the States whose name I've forgotten, I'd assumed the next stand-in reader would struggle as well, but Tulip fitted right in.

Err, Tulip? Honestly? :/

She was adorable, but how her fragility will cope with Chris Moyles' full-on... ness... I have no idea. She and Carrie will get along great, though. ^_^
I think they should have a new newsreader every once in a while - like every week or so - just to spice it up a bit and keep it interesting. Especially because they might not want the listeners getting TOO comfortable with the new set-up while Dom's away!

What was that about? I've heard the show, but can't work out why he was saying that. Obviously he thought he was off-mic, but was he mimicking someone else, or just taking the piss or what? Whatever the reason, hilarity, as they say, ensued. I just can't work out why he was doing it in the first place...

It is very strange, perhaps on the 4:30pm buletin he thought the mic hadn't been turned on and just said it as a piss take, either way it's odd how they got hold of it but I'm glad they did as it proved to be very funny :D

Follow the link in my signature & look for the show dated 28/9/2001, the bit me & Ed were talking about is also available on there as a ten minute clip labeled up as "Me Now Is It Love?"
