Is there any radio d.j's in britain that you think would be good on radio 1. My list would be as follows.

Jk And Joel. They shouldn't have left and Andy Parfit missed a trick with them.

Steve Penk. Very entertaining radio d.j when i listening on key 103.

Darren Proctor. Currently Presents the Key 103 Drive time show. Was a good listen on his time with century Fm

Tony Horne. A local dj ledgend and more than deserves a chance. Last heard in the north west on century fm in the early 00's. My personal opinion. He would more than suit colin murray's 10 - midnight timeslot.

Any other views and d.j's that you feel may well deserve a chance or are good enough too move to radio 1.

I liked him in the mid 90's when he was at Capital, but everything about him is dated now. He sounds tacky and cheesy, and has almost become a caricature of himself. As for his TV work, the less said the better...........

He is utter crap. Was on Metro FM in the late 90's then got sacked for being too much of a shock jock. Came back to Metro Radio a few years ago and he is still crap. He isn't funny at all. If most people on here think Mills is crap (like me, haven't listened to breakfast show since Chris went on holiday), then you are in for a shock with Horne. He relies on his sidekicks (who also aren't entertaining) way too much, and thinks he's the best thing to ever come to Metro Radio.

Who would I like on Radio 1?

Mark Radcliffe (with either Lard or Maconie) - I know he's on Radio 2 now but he (along with Lard) are much missed on Radio 1, plus Radcliffe (and Lard's) music knowledge are top notch, Radcliffe & Maconie are also a great double act.

Jon Holmes (ducks barrage of bricks ) - I think his 6Music show is great, although he'd be better placed as a late night DJ

Geoff Lloyd - The last great Virgin Radio DJ that survived onto Absolute Radio, would slot in well with Radio 1

Simon Mayo - An excellent broadcaster

Neil Long - Played a great mix of music on Capital FM

That's all for now.

Radcliffe is far, far better suited to Radio 2 though.

Noooooooooooooooooo! In the name of all that is good radio, this man must never be allowed to broadcast to a national audience.

Oddly enough, I trust CassieJackson's judgement over wireman2004's.

Most of the DJs I like are pretty well suited to where they are at the moment.
Although I would like to see the return of Mark and Lard and Chris Morris' Music Show.

Surely he would fit quite well into Colin Murray's slot.

That's the slot I was thinking of actually, rather him than that other fellow (whose name I've forgotten but know is rubbish)

Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington together, like they did when they were on Xfm. I've downloaded some of their Xfm shows, and they are bloody hilarious!

Sadly the shows were too close to the bone for Radio 1 I think, as Gervais and Merchant swore, criticised the music, often spouted dirty innuendos...not very mainstream really :D

You can download the shows from here by the way...pretty much complete shows, minus the music. http://www.pilkipedia.co.uk/wiki/index. ... =Xfm_Shows

Don't get me wrong, I like many of the aforementioned djs, but I don't think they're suited to Radio 1 at all. I know this will sound terribly patronizing but generally speaking the target age group will not respond to these DJs well as they're too old and don't focus on the content young people want to hear. I say generally speaking as I love Stuart Maconie, Mark & Lard et al. and am only 16 but this isn't what the majority of R1 listeners want. I would like to hear Max, Dev and possibly Ronnie Herel from 1xtra on Radio 1, along with student radio winners such as Mark Crossley, Kate Cooper-Owen etc. Vicki Blight from Heart FM has done bits for R1 before and I think she would be good full time along with comedian Russell Howard who was brilliant on 6music.

I was thinking someone like Allan Lake (formerly of Absolute) would be perfect for radio 1, as he does tick all the boxes except that his style may be too similar to Greg, Scott & Chris' and with those 3 all in prominent spots on the station there wouldn't be room for him.

Thanks, and in this case I believe you'd be justified. However, never trust my judgement on chocolate bars being as I'm a KitKat lover.......

You're right, on Radio 2 Radcliffe gets more of a free play with the playlist where as on Radio 1 he's more restricted, which sometimes you could tell irked him & Lard every so often.

Nice one, thanks for that link, I thought their show was bloody excellent, only caught it a few times but it never failed to entertain.

That's not always true though, and I don't see how a DJ's age will effect a youngsters music choices. Not only that but I think (and this is not aimed at you but Radio 1 bosses) they seem to have this "stereotype" view of what youngsters like, from speaking to fellow colleagues in the office, who have teenagers, they seem to like a wide variety of music. The youngster where I live prefer urban music anyway so Radio 1 wouldn't be to their taste, they'd either listen to 1Xtra, Kiss or Choice.

all the djs mentioned in this thread are far too old and dated for radio 1 and would never get onto radio1 mainly cos of there age
radio1 wants to appeal more to the younger listeners

"There age" should be "their age".

In other words S4B wasn't being pedantic. The problem here is that not only is your spelling and punctuation shit, you need someone else to tell you what you wrote.

i think that we can open a slot in the schedule because although i like listening too zane's show. I feel that his style and format is more of specialist caliber and i think that giving him a weekly 3 or 4 hour show may benefit more too him.

But Zane's show is (to me) a great bridge between the daytime shows and the specialist ones. It's a great format because it suits his style and eases people in to listen for the rest of the evening.
