Seems a compelling argument until you remember The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. Then it all falls apart.

Depends whether you are talking about the films or the TV series. The Star Trek films aren't great, even the half decent ones are dull really.

Is this in the same sense as to why Modern Doctor Who is crap compared to Classic Doctor Who?

I'll be honest this is the first place I've read negative opinions about the film (although have read on the Doctor Who Forum that on the Star Trek ones they hate it as well).

But it isn't - classic Dr Who was absolute RUBBISH.

Whoa, whoa, WHOA! Patrick Troughton & Tom Baker were superb, I must point out however that I worded my original statement wrong, I like both the modern & classic series.

Patrick Troughton was hammy, stagey and wrinkly in a bad show. Tom Baker went ridiculously over the top with the same old sub-standard material, and produced a memorable performance as a result, but the memorable performance was still in a dreadful programme.

I have to say, I loved the new Star Trek film, and it has apparently also turned many anti-Trekkies in the past few days.

It was loads better than the Dark Knight, which bored the crap out of me, and I've heard it's also better than Wolverine, although I have no intention of seeing that as I suspect it would bore the crap out of me too.

Good to see a return to the good old summer blockbuster that isn't ashamed to be a romp and doesn't take itself too seriously or try desperately hard to be "darker" in its reinvention. Like James Bond and Batman have, for example.

Far be it from me to rubbish your opinions, but if The Dark Knight bored the crap out of you, you have no taste. Sorry.

I agree with Topher, Dark Knight is a fantastic film.
And they weren't trying to reinvent Batman as as darker character, he's much much darker in the comic books than he's ever been on film.
In fact, some of the comic book story arcs of the last 10 years have been dark as anything; child porn rings, heroin addiction, Batman himself addicted to drugs, Batman being crippled and just a few months ago dying. None of your 'Kappow, Zzap, Holy ferris wheel Batman!" around here I'm afraid.

So Batman is finished then? Because his dying would seem to indicate that?

I understand that - it wasn't the best example. For the record, I didn't like Camp Batman either. I guess I just don't like any of it.

I just think it's refreshing to see a fun summer film for a change. Last year, I rated Wall-E over Dark Knight. I even found Indiana Jones 4 more enjoyable. If Indiana Jones had tried to be all clever and dark, it wouldn't have worked.

And even if it worked well for Batman, it didn't work on me. I've never been interested in the Batman franchise (so know practically nothing about the comics), but Dark Knight failed to change that.

Nooo, Death is never the end in comic books Yuddy.
He was shot by Darkseid with the 'Omega Sanction', like a big gun that destroys the body but sends their consciousness traveling through parallel worlds.
He comes back though.

I don't really do the whole comic book thing, I must admit, although I was aware that the Batman comics are a lot darker than the Burton films. I just liked the direction they took the film in, but then I loved Batman Begins as well.
