I always knew that there was nothing healthy about vegetarianism.

Seriously though, I'm not sure what the problem is, just work out what you are eating that you shouldn't be eating and stop eating it - and do some exercise. Its not rocket science.

I am a great believer in the Boboff Four Word Diet Plan.

Are you one of these people who claim it's genetic or something? puuuuuurrrrrrrleeeese!

This may be feeding the troll but

I have a thyroid that doesn't work at all & PCOS. Cheese is my downfall, I don't snack, eat fried food, sweets or desserts and I'm not the size of a brick privy! I know I don't do enough exercise and I am trying to do something about it so you could at least give me some support instead of being your usual annoying self!*

*I realise this is a pointless thing to ask for but thought I'd give it a go

That burger does nothing for me - it has far too much yucky cheese in it and raw onions? Who the hell wants raw onions in a burger? And any food that presents practical, physicaland logistical problems in consumption (ie its just too big to get your face round) is an automatic no from me.

Right now, Danish Pastries - the ones from Costco with thh really thick, gooey white icing all over them - that would do it for me. I'm not going to though, I've been swimming four times this week and its so bloody boring and exhausting that there's no way I'm going to make all the effort worthless by eating crap now.

Yuds - may I suggest that you steer clear of Gourmet Burger Kitchen then. They do burgers the size of your head! Very nice though.

Ok I am now officially depressed. Used a set of scales that actually work. I am actually 15 stone 8. I may as well die right now! Give it a few more months and I probably will anyway.

You have stopped drinking haven't you? Because its the single worst thing you can do when you're trying to lose weight, even in moderation...........

I'd say eating cream buns would be worse than stopping drinking.

bless you ignorant men. it's polycystic ovary syndrome and it's not nice.

I had a cyst on my uterus S4B. Not the same but still unpleasant and I didn't find out until something fairly drastic happened. I feel for you (and on the weight thing too).

Thanks Nic. I'm sooo miserable today. I keep thinking "what's the point" but I will try and get some more enthusiasm for it all. I have a friend who's a personal trainer and has a degree in fitness and nutrition (or something like that) and he's promised to help me.

Aw chin up, I bet your body is healthier even if it hasn't filtered through to your mind yet - I'm sure it will. The trainer sound a brilliant idea, I would like to do that. I quite often see personal trainers out with their clients doing fast walking around the area here, it seems to be a growing trend to have a trainer to help you make the most of your effort.

I've been doing a fair bit of swimming and I think I feel the benefit already - and I may have lost some weight, I don't know yet. I may weigh myself towards the end of the week.......if I have the courage. I had two crumpets with marmite and cottage cheese for breakfast, and I'm going to have some fruit for lunch, probabky an apple, a pear and an orange all chopped up together. And if I can muster the energy (I have a cold.....) I will go swimming. I don't like swimming but I'm doing it until I feel strong enough to tackle the gym induction again!

Marmite and cheese is nice, but cottage cheese has practically no flavour whatsoever. I just had gouda on toast, it was loverly.

I am fortunate enough to actually really like cottage cheese. The combination of hot crispy toasted crumpet, salty marmite and cold, bland, soft cottage cheese works surprisingly well, is healthy and not too calorie-loaded for me at the moment.

Ha. While cream buns are certainly not very beneficial to weight loss they do not slow your metabolism the way alcohol does. Staying off the booze and exercising more than you did before really is the quickest and easiest way to lose weight. I think the personal trainer idea is great, S4. They'll be able to lift your spirits and tell you exactly how many calories you're burning whether you're speed walking, riding the exercise bike or just taking the stairs. It will seem like it's worth it when it's tied to results like that. Also, make sure whatever meals you have contain some form of protein. It keeps you full longer. Chin up. You're doing great.

Thanks guys. I'm having the day off tomorrow though, just because. I'll start again on Thursday.

By the way the personal trainer is a mate and isn't costing me a penny! He's also hot so at least I have something pretty to look at. ;)

On the radio coming home today they were singing the praises of tinned tomatos. They're about 69 kcal a tin and high in lots of good things. And delicious on toast! We made spag bol tonight with a tin using lean pork mince.
