So........

*Deep breath*

I am currently 14 stone. I would like to get down to 10 stone by Christmas (hell I'd like to get down to 8 stone but I'm being realistic)

I know I can start exercising more - in fact I started yesterday - but it has to be done in the privacy of my own home to start off with cos I daren't go out running etc until I have lost at least some off my chest and stomach.

I know if I cut out the booze I will lose more weight - although contrary to popular belief I don't drink that often.

My main problem is that I lose the impetus and get lazy/stop caring after a little while so I thought if you lot could help by encouraging/bullying/reminding me a bit on a daily/weekly basis I might actually stick at it.

I'll try not to turn it into a blog I promise and if it annoys too many people then I'll stop posting in it, I just need some help.

So I guess my question is - will you help/bully/encourage me?

(I am aware that I will get abuse from many people for this thread by the way but I'll take it)

Woo - well done missus. You gained points for that post (which is good cos you have a lot of making up to do ;)).

I too am on the "get the * fat off" idea. I'm going for a run / brisk walk the now. Let us know how you are getting on m'dear.

I'm not giving you a lecture, ignore me if you want but here is my advice:

Weight Loss Targets
Set yourself mini goals in terms of weight loss, your 14 stone right now, setting a realistic target of say losing 2lbs a week, if you can stick to losing 2lbs a week for the next 7 weeks you will be down a stone. Granted your initial weight loss will be greater in the first couple of weeks if you lose more than 2lbs a week all the better, your weight loss will eventually plateau and you will need to work that little bit harder but losing 2lbs a week is still manageable.

Meals
Eating breakfast is very important, you need something to kick start you metabolism each morning, even if your in a rush out the door grab an apple or some fruit just make sure each morning you have a breakfast. Don't skip on meals you might think your doing good by skipping meals but in fact your not, your body's metabolism will start to slow down and decrease (Google starvation mode) This might sound stupid but don't go to the super market on a empty stomach you will end up buying all the wrong food or maybe that's just me.

Daily Routine
You need to commit to exercise, walking is definitely the best for weight loss, you don't have to break out running straight away, if you can manage three walking sessions a week, don't over do it remember were being realistic here, for the first fortnight try 20 minutes then increase your sessions up to 30 minute, 40 minute sessions and so on. Think of your walking sessions as part of your day YOU HAVE TO DO IT, does not matter if its raining snowing outside go for your walk you will feel good after you have done your daily walking sessions. The more you exercise the more you committed you will become to it, the endorphins and feel good factor will kick in. The summer is slowly starting you have the bright mornings and bright evenings so pop on your iPod and go walking.

Well that's all my advice I have for now, Yes you will fall off the wagon here and there but you gotta get back onto it when you do, for the record I'm 6ft 4 and just under 13 stone my weight is mostly made up of muscle now, I used to weigh a hell of a lot more over 21 stone! I started started eating healthy, set my goals and lost my weight and most importantly kept it off, I started indoor Rock climbing when I came to New York going to rock climbing gyms, might sound a bit weird but its a brilliant form of exercise im going on my first "Serious" outdoor climb to Yellow Stone this summer.

Best of luck with your weight loss!

Danny over and out.

Ah I need to lose weight. I've put on weight since I've been with Topher, he eats so much cheese and processed crap. I might join weight watchers again, I lost 31lbs in 3 months last time.

I use a pedometer when I go walking or running, the best way to use it is in conjunction with some sort of clock so you can calculate how many steps a minute you do (a recent research article advised that you should do 100 steps a minute). It sounds like a lot but it is achievable! And every time you use it aim to do more steps a minute than you did the time before etc...I quite like it because you want to beat your previous number of steps so keeps you motivated!

Good luck all!

It is the same club as Angelo.

It pays for itself as you save on wine!

There is no mocking involved, it is support, it is not Margery Dawes.

Your choice, but as I say, it is very good way of keeping up your interest in a diet. There is no where to hide, if you are committed to loosing weight it makes it easier.

I think you pay £10 to join and then it's about £4 a week. With weight watchers, you have to buy there dishes, but all it is is calorie control.

Ok, so if you don't like that one, I did my "own" diet a few years back where you did not eat anything with more than 3% of Fat in it, and kept to a strict 1000 calories a day. That works too, it forces you to eat fruit and veg and day!

That's exactly what i do, combined with exercise. I lost five and a half stone in a year like that.

Had 2 pieces of toast & marmite for breakfast going to do some exercise in a bit. Very proud I have woken up aching a little bit - shows I'm doing something right!
Everyone else still motivated?

Breakfast is truly the most important meal of the day, especially for you weight loss seekers. Research shows that those who eat breakfast lose more weight than those who skip breakfast. Your metabolism slows down while you sleep and it doesn’t speed back up until you eat again. If you don’t eat until lunchtime, your body won't burn as many calories as it could during the morning period.

Copied that from a website but my doc has told me the same thing

Again, this is decent general advice, but realistically if you don't feel hungry at breakfast time then it is not right to force yourself to eat. Most people who are eating healthily and are reasonably active during the day DO feel hungry at breakfast time - but you should never eat unless your body is telling you that you need to, ie you feel hungry.

I only ever eat fruit for breakfast when I'm working. If you eat fruit with other things or on a full stomach it ferments in your stomach and that causes my digestive system to go crazy, so I always have it first thing on an empty stomach. Works for me. Today I have pineapple, blueberries and kiwi :)

Lima Eel has already said this, but you'd be surprised how much of a difference slow eating can make.

I tried it for a while and it had an effect without me doing exercise. What I did was have whatever I liked, but chew it slowly and appreciate the taste more (I too am often guilty of eating way too quickly). Also don't feel bad about not eating everything on the plate - if you eat slowly you'll know when you're pleasantly full. You can always come back to it later.

As I say it worked for me - I imagine that combined with exercise would be a good start. I think it was from Paul McKenna's book (which is mostly filler but with a few good bits of info, such as the above)
