Of course it won't but in the words of Benitez at half time in Istanbul...

"Don't let your heads drop. All the players who go on the pitch ........ have to keep their heads held high.
We are Liverpool. You are playing for Liverpool. Do not forget that.
You have to hold your heads high for the supporters.
You have to do it for them.
You cannot call yourselves Liverpool players if you have your heads down.
If we create a few chances we have the possibility of getting back into this.
Believe you can do it and you will.
Give yourself the chance to be heroes."

I do love the SPL. Every year they desperately try to avoid making the last Old Firm game of the season a title decider. Mainly due to a few idiots on the green side throwing coins and diving off the top tier of the stadium, and a few on the blue side going on a celebratory rampage ten years ago now.

Anyway, due to our ever so comical split where everyone plays everyone else three times (there's 12 teams) and then the league splitting into a top six and a bottom six so they all play a further five games, they can never quite tell when that title decider is going to be or if there will be one. So what usually happens is if the league is done they can pick one, if the league isn't quite done but will be shortly they make it a late one, and if it's tight they pick an early one.

Anyway, there's one game left before the split and Celtic are ahead by a point. Final games at Celtic at home to Aberdeen and Rangers away to Hibs. Aberdeen are already in the top six but are chasing Europe. Still, they're going to Celtic Park which is a tough place for anyone to go and there's a good chance Celtic will win. Hibs on the other hand aren't quite guaranteed a top six place. Thanks to television, Motherwell play on Saturday and if they win Hibs will need to win on Sunday to make the top six. So there is a reasonable chance that the one point gap could be four by the end of the weekend.

You'd think the SPL would wait to announce when this final Old Firm game would be then? Nope, they've announced it will be the second game of the five due to the police moaning about the first weekend being a bank holiday (I don't see what difference that makes if you just make the game kick off at lunch time Saturday, but there you have it)

So, back to our quite possible four point gap. We play the first game of the split. We don't actually know what that is yet, it won't be decided until the games are finished this weekend. But again there's always a possibility that Celtic could win and Rangers could lose. That would put our gap up to seven points going into the Old Firm game.

Eh... forgive me for being a bit optimistic here but that means there is a very real possibility that Celtic could be going to Ibrox next month with a seven point gap knowing that if they win that gap will be ten points with three games left. That's nine available points, and by my reckoning that means Celtic would be champions. Isn't that a title clicher - the very thing they're trying to avoid?!

Like I say, I do love the dumbassary of the SPL.

Somehow I doubt Hiddink's words will be the same as Ancelotti's at half time.

I maintain to this day that it was Gatuso that lost Milan that final by touching the trophy when he was running out on to the pitch.

That's why I got my tattoo. Games like that. From now on, that's how all your English teams play! Do that and I'll stop moaning about your top four's dominance!

Well, maybe not, but at least it will be enjoyable to watch!

Still... Som-hi Barca!

Pfft, we did 'em t'other season easily enough, no reason you shouldn't!

Cracking game tonight, the tie was won at Anfield though.

On reflection, I think I've been too nice about Chelsea recently so in order to redress that.

Just how many times did Drogba break his leg last night? And as for the moment when he realised he'd rolled off the pitch so decided to roll back on to it in an attempt to get the ref to stop the game, FOYcheatingC.

And Chelsea fans, are there a more craven bunch of dicks in the land? Booing your team off at half time. Jesus. Get a clue. Hope you get dicked by Barca.

Here's to a Porto v Barca final. With Porto winning.

Players like Drogba annoy the hell out of me. Here's a clearly very talented footballer who is quite capable of turning on the style and burying almost any team out there and yet he resorts to falling over, rolling about like there's a sniper in the crowd whenever someone in the opposition does anything remotely like contact to him. USE YOUR TALENT YA CHEATING BASTARD!!!!

Arjen Robben is another one. Cristiano Ronaldo too.

Having said that, you then get hatchet men like Van Bommel who go out of their way to try and kill the honest good players. That guy could have been sent off in both legs against Barcelona for his assaults on Lionel Messi (a guy I've yet to see dive... in fact, I've seen him try and be too honest at times).

Actually, Arjen Robben is one of them too. I'll never forget his chest high tackle on Messi a few seasons ago when the Sky commentators were accusing Messi of making a meal of it! It was bloody chest height with studs!

The other ones I hate are the clearly talented footballers who waste it by being piss artists. Gazza is a prime example of that.

And just to complete the set, I hate any footballer who thinks his position gives him the right to go out and do what the hell he wants on a night out. These ones seem to be on in the increase unfortunately.

Gutted Chelsea won last night, Drogba is an utter *. I've thought that for a long, long time but last night jsut served to confirm my opinion. Good player, but a cheating bastard.

On a more positive note, St. Johnstone are now 7 points clear of the Scottish First with 5 (I think) games left. Can this finally be our season?!

there's no doubt that drogba is a talented player. but he's getting old now and i don't see any manager getting this diving nonsense out of him, not even hiddink. he won't change until he retires, 2 or 3 years down the line.

i watched last nights game down the pub, without a doubt it was one of the best games i've seen. most including myself were backing liverpool except for the odd girl chelsea fan who only seemed to support them because lampard plays for them. gutted for liverpool in the end, but they seem to be improving every year. they've come a long way since they won the european cup 4 years ago, the likes of baros and traore are long gone. but i think rafa still has some players in the side who aren't good enough to contribute towards what liverpool want to acheive.

there's no ashley cole marking messi when chelsea face barca, so unless chelsea get lucky (...) barca should get through. i think it'll end up barcalona and united in the final, with united winning through an own goal. :?

Which players don't you think are good enough?

i don't really rate lucas at all. aurelio is improving but i find he is hit and miss, i still think rafa should of kept riise even though he went through a bad spell (only because he didn't get played as much in his last season). dossena has made a bit of an impact as a sub latley but i don't find him too convincing, i still think liverpool should look out for a new keeper because reina is hit & miss. keep babel but maybe send him on loan, he' still quite a young player. and they need some depth in new players, maybe another box to box midfeilder incase gerrard is missing for a start. you wouldn't expect him to be as good but liverpool already have two defensive type of midfeilders in mascherano and alonso.

a replacement for hyypia wouldn't be a bad idea either, there is talk of agger leaving for milan or barca in the summer. he's a liverpool legend and can read the game as good as anyone, he was brilliant against united at old trafford even without much of a warm up. but he's coming 36 and can't play as much as he used to.

That fine saying all that but wheres the money coming from? Rafa is doing a great job and the team will only get better, cant believe you wish we had keep riise

I agree about Lucas, he doesn't seem fantastic. I think Babel has potential but he's got alot of work to do yet. As for defense, Skrtel I think can be good but he needs to keep his consistency up. He seems to be ok for Liverpool, but he was absolutely horrendous for Slovakia against England.

liverpool have money, they are a big enough club to turn over quite a lot of it. they wasted how much on a player they never heardly used in robbie keane, not that i think keane is a bad player i like him. but i'm not quite sure who actually bought him in after it all, benitez or parry. maybe loan out some or sell the weaker players for extra cash. liverpool have 3 world class players to build around, carragher, gerrard & torres.

riise came in for a lot of stick from some liverpool fans after last year against chelsea, not everyone i know but some of the things i read on 606 at the time were stupid. makes me laugh how they must of been jumping for joy at his free kick against united in 2001, or his goal in the semi final of the fa cup against chelsea. yes it was a bad mistake with the own goal but as i said, the reason he was playing that bad towards the end is because for some reason rafa started playing aurelio over him. i recall riise playing at the start of his last season and there was nothing different to the usual solid performance, after he got dropped he probably thought he was unwanted and lost confidence.

i never got the gareth barry saga over last summer either. liverpool already have two great holding midfeilders in alonso and mascherano, alonso nearly went to make the funds for barry. but this season alonso has been playing some of the best football he's played in a while, it comes down to personal choice i guess but i think alonso is a better player for liverpool. why spend money in a position that dosen't really need to be strengthened?

i would love to see liverpool get the title, and if they don't get it this year i hope soon. rafa has bought them a long way since he got there, he's done very well. but i still think there are one or two things that need to be ironed out before they can look at doing what united did last season for example.

Riise did score some important goals (Barca away's another one) but the negatives far outweighed the positives with him, both Aurelio and Insua are better both defensively and going forward - there's no way Riise would have done what Aurelio did with the freekick on Tuesday night. Also, Liverpool have a lot less money than people think, they're laden with debt after the takeover and the company that Hicks owns in the US has already defaulted on sizeable loan payments in the last month (and it's not just Liverpool with that problem, look at the losses the company that owns United made recently, 45 million and 650 million in debt).

Oh, and Fat Face Allardyce and the imperial lord Ferg having a pop at Benitez for this outrageously disrespectful gesture during the 4-0 on Saturday..

Image

There's something ever so slightly pathetic about the fact that the two of them have obviously spoken to each other about it decided to whine in the press about it today.

Exactly what are we supposed to be looking at with this "gesture"? 2-0 it's all over after half an hour? He was right.
