Interesting extra info in there from what I could find MB, do you mind me asking where you found that out? I've been looking at The Times and Sky News websites but they're being unhelpfully vague... The Times reports McLaren as saying they are being done because they didn't disclose radio transmissions, althought the content of the transmissions was not relevant and would anyway have been heard by the FIA..it's all about as clear as mud...

Martin Brundle's comments in this article - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsp ... 978186.stm

This does not look good for Hamilton or McLaren.

Hamilton passed Trulli as he was off the road. Hamilton clearly wondered then, to give him the benefit of the doubt, if he had passed under the safety car conditions and was trying to let Trulli back through.

There was a point when he was doing just 15mph in his McLaren and Trulli had no option but to repass him.

I think Lewis then saw half a chance of a third place instead of a fourth, went up to the stewards and didn't give them the full story.

Now they've matched up his comments (to them) to radio content between him and the team, and other information they've gathered, and they've decided that effectively he was telling fibs.

I think it's a big issue and it's not going to go away. If they were asked a direct question they should have given the right answer, and they clearly didn't.

"A lie?"

"An omission."

Me thinks Lewis may have watched Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country too much. I know I have.

I think the emphasis is being put on Dave Ryan's responsibility to vindicate Lewis from all of this, I think he had more involvement than is being made out. Ryan is the scapegoat, but is not free of all blame, obviously. However - the mistake has been made, now they just need to get on with it.

I heard an interview with Lewis about the whole mess, he sounded absolutely distraught. He is either very upset with himself over all this, or an extremely good actor.

Oh - I agree, I saw that too. I think he's genuinely remorseful about the whole thing, but I think McLaren are deliberately taking the burden of blame from him - some, but not all, of which by rights should be his and piling it on Dave Ryan. Being remorseful does help with both the public perception of you and may mean more lenience in any further action (though I wouldn't count on it - this is the FIA we are talking about), but doesn't strip him of blame.

No, and certainly from what I heard he doesn't seem to be trying to wriggle away from it.

Well, at times he just seemed to mention being misled once too many times - but to be fair to him, I think he was just saying what McLaren told him to say.

Which is how all the trouble started!

Well that was... interesting! I do love a wet race, but that's going a bit far.

Highlight for me was watching Timo Glock taking all the risks and carving up the field on intermediates. I kinda feel sorry for him finishing 3rd and not 2nd because he deserved every bit of success today.

Those half points are going to be fun for the rest of the season though. I hope that doesn't decide anything at the end of the year.

The FIA need to stop pandering to commercial needs though. This crazy late start has caused a half race today and there was just no need for it. I know you'd rather show the race live at 9/10am UK/Europe, but we'd rather see a whole race at 5am than half a race at 9am. Besides, that's what reruns are for.

I don't agree with half points. If you're going to stop the race and not restart it, award full points based on the positions at the time the race was stopped.

They would be stupid to try running this at the same time again next year. Again: Asian and Arab countries are not interested in Formula One, so why hold them there in the first place? It's just greedy.

They said a fork hit the grandstand during the race, didn't they?

I loved the pictures of folk hiding under brollys and trees while they waited to see if the race would continue. I couldn't help but think they are far more mental than me. I'd have been gone home - I don't love F1 enough to risk getting hit by lightning.

Yes you are correct the commentators did say that the Grandstand was hit by fork lightning,
as well as water pouring through it :)

I thought that this morning, anyone else think they should just start the whole season again??

...no. That would be silly.

The other teams now have no choice but to develop a similar diffuser if they wish to be competitive. It'll be costly, but they have to do it. It was the right decision.

Very probably. Next they'll be not hammering Lewis Hamilton and McLaren with full force every time they sneeze.

Nah, that's just being stupid Munki, behave...
