Co-op changed their branding. So it used to be the CIS Cup, but now it's the Cooperative Insurance Cup. I dunno where the S went. I still prefer "wee diddy cup" since it's bloody pointless. At least the English version gets a place in Europe for the winner. Even if it hadn't been one one of the predictable two up here you'd still get nothing for winning it.

I think it used to stand for Co-Operative Insurance Society or something like that.

What about The L.D.Vans trophy? Thats the one you all really want to win.

If we're going down the stupid names route, I want the leagues put back the way they were. Seriously, The Premiership, The Championship, League One. How can your third tier be bloody League ONE?!

Your biased, you haven't won "the Premiership" yet.

Another stupid myth I can't stand. Liverpool HAVE, more than anyone else. All the rebranding won't change that fact. Just like we've won the Champions League.

we won promotion from the premiership tho!
Blue Square Premiership that is.... i feel deadly sorry for anyone who ends up supporting their team after relegation to that league :(

Well that was depressing. English Ireland beat one side of my family where my club keeper had another howler in front of (lets face it) Rangers fans, the other side of my family binned it while at the same time as that was going on my main team were getting horsed in oranjeland.

Throw in Wales getting beat and it just wasn't a good day for any of the home nations.

And for those that don't understand the concept (ie. the pundits and the commentators), ENGLAND DON'T COUNT AS FRIENDLY RESULTS ARE MEANINGLESS!!!!

Republic Of Ireland Game Dunne's goal was a cracker 30seconds into play but then Kilbane's OG cant believe it 8O we could have gone top of our group.

Just realised I missed a bit from my previous post on here. When I said it wasn't a good day for any of the home nations, I know one of them won. But sadly that game was tarnished by one moron throwing a coin at the linesman.

What really hacked me off about that was that come full time the Sky commentators and pundits were talking up the fans at Windsor Park! "Oh its a special place to go"... yeah, if you're a piggy bank...

So they might have won yesterday, but I can't see UEFA letting them away with that one. Especially given the fights outside the stadium too. Admittedly, that was both sets of fans and the police.

I'm starting to think you should only watch injury time of Premiership games now. Both Liverpool and Man United getting late winners this weekend.

Beats the football up here. Celtic easily brushing Hamilton aside yesterday (I'm not complaining, I enjoyed it but I'm biased - a neutral would be bored), and Rangers playing "I'd rather kill myself with a spoon than watch this rubbish" football to scrape a win...

Dunno who'll win the title up here, but I think that late winner from Man United in a game they probably shouldn't have got anything from will ensure the title stays in Manchester. Running out of games for them to drop the required points for someone to stop them.

Man Utd still have to play the Gunners and Man city that 2 very hard games and the only games i can see them dropping points in to be honest

It'll be united, too many draws resulting from conservative tactics and team selections earlier in the season for Liverpool. It is nice to actually be involved in a title race for once though. Still, can't see united winning in Europe at the moment.

I think as far as Europe goes Man United couldn't have picked the draw better. They'll beat Porto, Villarreal are stuffed without Cazorla now so Man United will get Arsenal in the semi final. Which they'll win. Meanwhile, all the teams that COULD beat Man United are on the other side of the draw taking each other out.

On that, I dunno what to make of Bayern. They've got the firepower to beat Barca, but then Wolfsburg thumped them 5-1 at the weekend so they clearly don't have the defence to keep Barca out. Barca's defence isn't great either, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's a high scoring tie. Liverpool have already beaten Chelsea twice this season, but Chelsea with Hiddink in charge a different prospect. I actually fancy Barcelona v Chelsea for a semi final. Then hopefully Hiddink will hit his usual semi-final wall that he has hit with both PSV and South Korea in the past and Barca will get the chance to right the football wrong on 12 months ago when Man United knocked them out in the semi by shooting once over two legs.

Although I have this nasty feeling Man United might just be the first to retain the cup since the tournament was restructured.

I have a nasty feeling too, but its not quite the same as yours. Based on their current surge in form and the fact that of all teams in Europe they above all know how to win this competition, Liverpool will win in Europe.

Can't say I'd mind if Liverpool won it. I'd still prefer it to be Barcelona though.

Yeah, there's something of a sickly love in with them going on this season. But I've been a fan of Barca for a good while now. I used to have a Frank De Boer shirt before he went mad and signed for Rangers.

I really like Villarreal too. Great wee club, some brilliant people supporting them, and they play some lovely football. Great setup, but they do suffer if they lose key players. Having lost Cazorla I fear the worst for them tonight.

Now I'm not usually one for omens but.....Let me take you back to 1986

Here was the state of play when we thought we'd blown it at Sheffield Wednesday;

Everton 69 Pts with 8 games left

Liverpool 67 Pts with 7 games left

Goal difference was marginal.

The following weekend we played a Lancashire team at home, the weekend after that was FA Cup semi final day.

Everton had won the league (and a European trophy) the year before.

They then bought an extremely expensive striker who whilst making a valuable contribution to that season didn't exactly fit in with their style of play and was considered selfish.

Their manager liked a tipple or two.

Liverpool had made a great start compared to them and had gone off the rails in December, January and February, resulting in Everton overtaking us by 8 points and seemingly uncatchable. This was after a 2-0 defeat where we conceded a pathetic own goal (Grobbelaar).

We had to play a virtually relegated West Brom near the end of the season and a London side on the final day.

In the run-in Everton were virtually unbeatable at home and their problems stemmed from their away form.

We met after the league was finished in a cup final in which Everton had appeared the year before and got to play against 10 men.

Hmmmmm...:P
