You know what - as much as Ross Brawn is an odious twat, the man is a technical and tactical god. That was a thoroughly enthralling race. Lewis - whether he had finished fourth or third - drove a sterling race in an inferior car and yeah he had a bit of luck with Kubica and Vettel, but so what - he still had to be in the position to take that place when they dropped out.

The other teams should forget their silly appeal over the diffuser and get on with the task of trying to redesign their own - the FIA have decided both types are legal.

The Brawn's look amazing, particularly when you consider their off-season, but I would be very surprised if they dominated the whole season. I think it'll go to the wire and I think there will be a few title challengers too. How great would it be to have Jenson and Lewis battling it out for the title?!

Ross Brawn (twat that he is, he's still a clever bastard) and Nick Fry have both said that 2008 was pretty much a compromise while they got the 2009 car sorted, which is why they were so gutted that Honda had pulled out. If they do carry on under a different name (and I hope they do) then they may well be quite a bit more competitive.

I think we all agree Ross Brawn is a tactical genius. And a twat. But I can't help think even if they do make it this season they'll be no more effective than they were last year because of all this disruption. There'll have been major cut backs, and very probably they'll use last year's car instead of this year's. Which will probably still be a heap, still pull out a lot, and probably finish Honda off completely.

Ha - in fairness to Martin Brundle, he was speculating as to the cause and not making a statement of fact. At the time anything would have been speculation because there was nothing to suggest what may have happened until the stewards' judgement. But yeah, brilliant!

Yes, but the commentators missed it too - even if they didn't see pictures they would have seen captions and updates from the course, and they missed it.

I must admit, I'm totally sure what the updates in the commentary box would have said in the event that what Martin was saying was correct; if, as I believe, it would just show Lewis going ahead (I think it just updates at the various sector boundaries) and then relinquishing the place again when he'd realised he'd achieved it under a yellow flag - in which case, that'd seem to be a logical assumption for him to make at the time. I could be wrong though.

I've just read the news story on Yahoo and I'm still non the wiser - can someone explain to me why he's been disqualified?

Apparently they deliberately slowed down to let Trulli overtake when the safety car was out. And then lied about it.

It's ridiculous that they waited half a week before announcing this, should be sorted out on the day.

I don't watch football, but they have a 'referee's decision is final' rule don't they? Even if after the match has finished they replay it and spot that the referee was wrong they still don't change the result. Why can't they do this for the F1?

Hang on - Hamilton is in third. So he slows down forcing Trulli to overtake and incur a penalty which will leave Hamilton - third? This makes no sense.

Trulli originally claimed that Hamilton had slowed down and pulled over to the side of the track, giving him no alternative but to pass, and then decided not to appeal the decision against him (Trulli). Looks like the FIA have done it for him.

Are we now in for yet another season where the competition is decided off the track and behind closed doors? What a farce.

Apparently the whole story goes like this:

Safety car comes out
Trulli falls off the road and Hamilton passes him at roughly the same time as the safety car comes out
Hamilton tries to clarify the situation but doesn't get the clarification from the stewards
Just to be safe and so he doesn't get penalised Hamilton lets Trulli back through and they finish Trulli 3rd, Hamilton 4th
McLaren try to take 3rd place by getting Trulli into trouble for passing during the safety car but fail to mention everything that went on during the clarification stage
Trulli is penalised and Hamilton gets third place
The missing information comes to light, Trulli is reinstated after wrongly being docked time and Hamilton and McLaren are booted out for cheating

I think I'm with the FIA on this one.
