Nick * Grimshaw? What the hell are they thinking of, has the whole management team lost their * minds?

Ben Cooper needs a very long holiday, coming out with quotes like that.

Nick Grimshaw is a talentless half-wit who should never have been let anywhere near a national radio station, just like his gob-on-a-stick mate Kelly Osbourne. What an unbelievably stupid decision.

You speak the truth Mr Pummelon. What on earth are they thinking?

The news of Colin leaving makes me very sad. I can rarely listen while the show is actually on, but I often "listen again". I'm going to miss him a lot.

Ben Cooper wrote:It will be fantastic to get Nick's mix of humour, music and guests on four nights a week. I look forward to it soon becoming the 'must listen to' show for our young audiences."

There you go - young audiences. That definitely counts me out.

I imagine either Ben genuinely likes him or "those above" have had a hand in this

To be honest I've never listened to Nick Grimshaw so I can't comment fairly

Young audiences does not necessarily mean ranks of passive, glazed-over drones accepting whatever is spoon-fed to them. How much younger an audience do they expect compared to, say, Zane Lowe earlier in the evening? In any case Nick Grimshaw is under-qualified for CBeebies.

The decision is ridiculous either way.
Maybe they will put Nihal back on weekend breakfast and move Coxy back to her sat/sunday 1-4 slot. That would allow Chappers and Dave to take over the Sunday lie-in permanently. So at least somethiing good would have come out of Colin leaving!
C and D would be working six days a week if they presented the Sunday morning show full time, if they did want to do that they would probably have to take Fridays off.

For me the appeal of Moyles was always this ability he had to make you stay tuned, and not want to miss a single bit of his show. You'd then tune in the next day, addicted. You'd be upset and in a bad mood if you couldn't listen.

I don't get that from the show anymore. I can quite easily tune out. I can go for ages without listening. Don't get me wrong, when I do listen he still sounds good and is still the best thing on Radio 1 by miles (after Colin), but listening everyday stopped a long long time ago for me. I tried to make my 10 year regular listening milestone but it didn't happen.

Oh not Grimmy, he's so annoying. Him and Annie Mac on Switch is brutal, can't stand it. The only decent DJ's left at Radio 1 are Chris, Colin, Scott, Chappers & Dave. Now Colin is going and Grimmy is getting more air time!

The world is ending.

If you have Scott Mills on your list of good DJs then I fear the world has already ended.

I am in bed by 9.30 so it will not effect me. However, I like Nick Grimshaw. I see no reason why he has aroused this level of Anger. Colin is an argumentative, Gambling numpty whose ego meant he could not share a slot on Day time Radio.

Grimmy, is a young about town kind of fellow who is perfect for the target audience.

Colin is going to five live, if you like him, listen to him there. They have a different target audience to Radio one.

Ben Cooper stated his opinion that he feels the change reflects the Public Service nature of the BBC, and we should be rational enough to realize that the listening figures will show whether the level of under 25's listening to the show in the evening goes up, or down.

Moaning about change is a pet hate of mine. Things must change, or else things will stay the same.

He's a regular on the party scene who hangs out with Peaches Geldof, Kelly Osbourne (until she overdid it), Daisy Lowe, Alexa Chung and so on. That doesn't qualify him for anything other than having his picture appear in various zleb-following publications and potentially a stint in rehab further down the track. It certainly doesn't qualify him as a credible broadcaster, and in no way makes him perfect for the target audience - it doesn't mean he isn't perfect necessarily, it's just irrelevant.

boboff wrote:Ben Cooper stated his opinion that he feels the change reflects the Public Service nature of the BBC

If Ben Cooper did state that then he is talking out of his arse. The need for the change has been forced on them by Colin Murray choosing to leave the station, not because of some lofty desire to further their commitment to PSB.

boboff wrote:and we should be rational enough to realize that the listening figures will show whether the level of under 25's listening to the show in the evening goes up, or down.

Of course they will reflect any change, that's what listening figures are for. We don't have to be rational to realise that, we simply need to know what listening figures are.

boboff wrote:Moaning about change is a pet hate of mine. Things must change, or else things will stay the same.

Saying things must change or else they will stay the same is a statement of the obvious, but I think I know what you're getting at. However change should (hopefully) bring improvement, not a change for the worse, which is what putting that pillock in this time slot is doing.

I know what you mean. Whilst I'm sad that someone is dying of cancer, I don't have any affection for or interest in Jade Goody whereas I do for Radio 1. So I kind of feel the same way. Of course the parasitic and hysterical media reaction to the JG story has also pushed me further away from it.

No, I believe he left the daytime slot because the Colin and Edith Show was shit.

I think I'd quit if I had to put up with Edith shouting in my ear for three hours every day. Seriously, why can she not talk at any level below a shout?

Newsbeat finishes at 1....then before I can switch radio stations, I get deafened by a loud 'HEY EVERYONE, HOW'RE YE DOIN'?'

Scotts a fine DJ, makes the journey home a lot more entertaining. He balances music and chit chat well too.

He used to be good until he started believing his own hype. His early breakfast was great, I loved it. Now his show is just childish and unfunny.

He used to do this. These days he doesn't do chit chat, he does script reading. He's turned into an orange caricature of himself and it doesn't really work.

I am surprised you don't like Grimmy Yuds, he was very dismissive of poor grammar in texts at the weekend, and posts links to Christian bands music videos.

I haven't heard enough of him to properly dislike him, but I don't like his "kids TV presenter" style.

I'm going to download a few of these before he goes. BTW I may edit the music out & add some of these to Moyles and Mark & Lard archive, dependent on what the links are like :)
