I doubt they'll sack the fella though - the last one revealed himself in his autobiography that he was The Stig, I think that's why they did it before.

“It’s bloody annoying,” one show insider said. “You wouldn’t write a piece saying that Santa didn’t exist.”

My sentiments exactly. Bloody gutter press.

Well one thing is that these days, the majority of Top Gear viewers won't have any idea who this guy is. However, on the other hand, this takes away the mystery which was always a big part of the show, like a running theme that's been going for years. Hmmm... Blue Stig next?

Genuinely, I read the article, so it didn't bother me really... but I think Zoot did the right thing by not posting it for people who don't want to know and I don't think it's overreacting for people who don't want to know - it's part of the enjoyment of the show for some. For the people who don't want to know, it'd be like being told the ending of the film you're about to go and see.

Yes but curiosity comes over when it is just a click away and they won't be able to resist temptation and if they are that adamant to resist it then the clue is in the title of the thread so don't open it. Lets make a thread about a subject, then not talk about that subject incase somebody doesn't want to know but reads the thread anyway.

I agree with Cat. I read it - but i'm glad I can't put a face to the name.

I think this is all OTT as the Stig is not/hasn't always been the same person. Multiple Stigs have already been used to suit location/skill set required......

Plus, isn't this old news anyway?!

I've known his identity for a while now....

It's all in the papers today, so no, it's not old news.

I think it's been rumoured, but never actually confirmed. The Times article itself says it's been an 'open secret' within the sport for a while, but he has always denied it and the press didn't print it to be inkeeping with the spirit of the programme (though it has to be said, I think if The Sun knew who it was, they'd print it at the first opportunity).

My 12 year old son already knew this! He figured it out from YouTube. He keeps taunting me about it every week (because I have a thing for the Stig!). He loves to repeat the name over and over and over and ruin my admiration. Damn it! Thank God The Stig is cute in real life. It would have been dreadful if the helmet came off and he looked like an old, crusty, blue Anakin Skywalker underneath!

I'll be damned if I tell my son he was right about the name. This thread will never see the light of day as far as he's concerned! The identity of The Stig remains a mystery...

When old threads attack...

Incidentally, I got more interest out in a club one night wearing my "I am the Stig" t-shirt a couple of months ago than I did in my entire time at Uni. Now, admittedly I was crap at pulling when I was at Uni, but since I wasn't on the pull (far from it) I find that slightly odd, slightly entertaining, slightly uplifting and slightly depressing all at the same time.
