The Pop Quiz is conducted in line with the BBC's code of conduct for competitions.
1. The Pop Quiz (“PQ”) is open to all residents of the UK over the age of 16 , including the Channel Islands, except BBC employees, their close relatives and anyone connected with the competition
2. PQ will be broadcast live Monday - Thursday at some time between 9 and 10 am during the Chris Moyles programme on BBC Radio 1. The quiz will last about 10 minutes and will involve two contestants taking part head to head in answering questions about pop music and general knowledge.Application to take part in the quiz is only by filling in the form at Radio 1 online
3. All applicants must supply their name, address/email address, and contact telephone number.
Registration is open from 8.30 Thursday 8th January to select contestants for the first edition of the PQ. Thereafter Registration will be open each day up to midday for the next PQ. Any applications received after midday will only be available for selection for the next edition of the quiz . Unsuccessful applicants will need to re-register each time they wish to apply to take part.
4. Potential contestants will be drawn at random from those registering. They will be contacted by phone during the day. If they cannot be contacted, the next applicant chosen at random will be called.
5. Each person called will be asked 3 questions to test their knowledge of the Chris Moyles show and may be asked about their interests and hobbies. Contestants will be selected on the basis of how many questions they answer correctly and how lively and interesting they will sound on air. If a person is selected to take part in PQ, but is unable to do so their place will be forfeited. Back up contestants will also be selected each day and will be asked to take part if the ones selected are unable to do so.
6. There is no prize for winning the Pop Quiz but daily winners may be asked to take part again in the quiz the next time it is run at the discretion of the presenter, Chris Moyles.
7. Given the nature of the quiz, which is solely for entertainment purposes, and the style of the presenter, contestants should be aware that Chris Moyles might influence the outcome by helping one or other of the contestants. Additionally, due to the nature of the quiz, some questions may have more than one answer. Chris Moyles will have final say as to which answer will be deemed the correct one.
8. The BBC's decision as to contestants taking part is final. No correspondence relating to the competition will be entered into.
9. The BBC reserves the right to cancel or vary PQ at any stage, if deemed necessary in its opinion, or if circumstances arise beyond its control.
10. Contestants chosen to play on-air will not be allowed to enter the Pop Quiz for the following 12 months.
11. The BBC will only ever use personal details for the purposes of administering this competition, and will not publish them or provide them to anyone without permission.
12. Entrants will be deemed to have accepted these rules and to agree to be bound by them when entering this competition.
13. The competition is run by the BBC. The applicable law is that of England and Wales.
