Thanks to some dusty tapes and some fantastic work by forum member Johnny, we are pleased to be able to add a series of the 'Afternoon Shows' to the archives. If you first heard Moyles when he was on Breakfast, then you can at last listen to what many regard as one of his greatest periods on Radio One.

The shows below have had their music removed and are ideal for uploading to mp3 players.

21st Dec 2000 Radio One Afternoon Show [download] - This file is the Chris Moyles Radio One afternoon show recorded on Thursday 21st Dec 2000. The show also includes Melinda's last live appearance. The music has been removed.

4th Jan 2000 Radio One Afternoon Show [download] - This file is the Chris Moyles Radio One afternoon show recorded on Tuesday 4th Jan 2000. The team discuss Christmas. The music has been removed.

10th May 1999 Radio One Afternoon Show [download] - This file is the Chris Moyles Radio One afternoon show recorded on Monday 10th May 1999. The music has been removed.

No problem, glad you guys & girls like them, I have loads more to come (when I get the time to edit them).

On future ones I'm only going to keep one news bulletin rather than both (or three in the case of extended shows), with the exception of Dominic Byrne's, his will remain intact

A big thank you to Chris for hosting these & sharing them with fellow forumers :D

Also that pic of Chris is hilarious, what was he thinking  just glad we can't see the rest of it 8O

I've listened to the March 1999 one - brilliant... it's even got Culshaw on it!

I love the fact that at one point they mention that 'ten years ago on this station at this time, Steve Wright was on and now it's us three idiots' - which itself is nearly ten years old.

*head explodes*

I've not exploded for a while actually - I should start doing that again.

I know it's scary isn't it, I had just left School in May/June 1999 as well 8O

I like that one as well, it's the earliest one I have from the days of Radio 1

I only have a few unfortunately, two from 1997 on Capital FM, I've only copied one over so far, which I hope to have edited & ready for this weekend. I have one more from November 1999 & then after that the rest are from 2000-2002. I was in college from 1999-2001 & was then unemployed until October 2002 so after that date it gets rather patchy, I think I only ever recorder 3-5 from 2003, however I have about 20-30 from 2000 & 30-40 from 2001.

Quite a few have Melinda on them (even though the earlier ones I have he's off "ill"), however luckily I must have recorded about 15 between November-December 2000 for some reason. Not many have Rhys unfortunately, he left as soon as he arrived & even then he's off half the time. Loads with Will & LIzzie although Lizzie hardly appears in the few I've done so far, although her & Will have an argument on air in one of them so she's on that one quite a bit.

Presently I'm chosing at random for a bit of variety, the next two I hope to do are the last Afternoon Show & First Breakfast show which are both thankfully in full. I've also got several Breakfast shows from 2005 as well if anyone's interested?

No it's 1983, I had a reason as to why I put 1989 instead but for the life of me can't remember why now

Ah, cool. Looking forward to hearing the old shows! When you say you have 30-40 from 2001, you don't have the one from 9/11 do you? That would be fascinating to listen back to.

I *think* the first breakfast show has been uploaded in full before, but I may be wrong?!

The September 11th show wouldn't be very interesting to listen to from a Moyles point of view......

Taken from the Chris Moyles Bio on this site...

"On Tuesday September 11th 2001, the terrorist attacks in America occurred just before Chris was due to go on the air at 3pm UK time. A decision was made not to do the usual show. Instead, Chris played non stop music, interrupted only by regular Newsbeat updates from Claire Bradley. He was wildly praised for his handling of the situation. The next three shows were much the same - featuring emails from listeners, stories from eye witnesses and the latest from Claire."

I wasn't listening at the time, I was glued to the tele as I think were most people but I remember the few days afterwards where ever radio station changed it's output to almost an obit loop quite appropriately.

No, I did start recording that day but that was before I heard about the event & ended up stopping the tape then. I have the Saturday show from that week, which was their last show & IIRC they mention at the start that although due to recent events they have decided to do a normal show today so as to get back to some normality

I have a show from the week before the attacks as well, which will be interesting to hear again.

I can see why anyone would want to listen to that show, as theres this Ground Zero clip from their visit to New York which harks back to the day and in the clip Moyles handles the situation well with this rare display of utmost seriousness, which I've not often heard. If though, like Andy says its non-stop music then maybe its not worth Johnny digging it out.

I know - I wrote that biog. I just think it would be interesting to listen back to now and see what music he was playing/how he handled the situation etc etc.

Thought you'd buggered off a long time ago.............

I'm sure it would have been whatever was on the obit tape at the time really. Apart from a few links into the news etc I doubt he would have said much.

No I did start recording but after the first two rather sombre songs he announced what had happened & so I stopped the tape, the links consisted of them talking about their disbelief at what had happened & frequent news updates. I thought best not to tape it TBH.
