He's pullled out of the Comedy Awards now. He's done it for 17 years.

Apparently it was done "In agreement with ITV".....so he was sacked then.

Shame, he's really good on that.

This, Jonathan Ross. This, Russell Brand. This, smack on head.

Then we can all move on.

That is the funniest thing I have read in AAAAAAAGES....thanks Munki.

It irritates me this thread now runs to six pages and actually seems to have been kept on topic.

Does anyone really give a shit about any of this? Like actually care? No? Then why does everyone in the world seem to be talking about it.

Hate to disagree but I really care - I love both Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross as broadcasters. Put together with my hatred for the Daily Mail means it's something I feel quite strongly about.

The fact that I can't really stand either of them may influence my point of view.

It just seems rediculous that everyone is so worked up about two, rather talentless (in my humble opinion), presenters.

Oooh now there's an idea I can get behind. Send the idiot to America! (I would like to say that this has nothing to do with the whole stupid saga and more to do with the fact I don't get or like Russell Brand at all)

I heard a very interesting interview with Paul Gambaccini which is the first thing I've heard actually try to clarify how this was able to happen at Radio 2.

Apparently Russell Brand has been empire building at Radio 2 and the ex-controller, who everyone is painting as a tragic victim, not only allowed this to happen but encouraged it by treating Brand as "her pet presenter". In the earlier days of his show, apparently he used to go through producers like most of us get through clean socks - and every time one of them said no to him, he got rid and pulled in someone else. All this with the backing of the tragic ex Radio 2 controller. Finally he managed to get his own production company in there to produce the show - not a move without precedent, but for someone as potentially controversial as Brand, a silly thing to allow - unless he is your "pet", and you are desperate to keep him at all costs.

Gambaccini reckoned that the bottom line problem is that BBC producers these days are often brought in from outside on short contracts, rather than being employed in a lowly position and working their way up to producer at the BBC - meaning that many of them don't really understand that standards and accountability at the Beeb are a different kettle of fish to other broadcasters. Thankfully we know this isn't always the case.

So all in all, far from being in a position to receive compensation from anyone because of her heroic sacrifice, Lesley Douglas was right to accept total responsibility for this whole stupid fiasco. If she'd done her job properly in the first place, Brand would have either been doing his show without resorting to this kind of stupidity, or he'd have walked aaaaages ago, stamping his little feet in fury at not being allowed to have his own way with the BBC. Either of those would have been better than what's happened.

See the thing is, it isn't about Andrew Sachs anymore - its about how Radio 2 has been being run. That's a bigger can of worms than people realised - and I think it needed to be opened.

Apparently someone overheard this on Jonathan Ross's answerphone today.

"Hi Johnathan, It's me, Gary Glitter. I just * your daughter.

Not so funny now is it you prick"

Ironic that.

(Please see other thread for further tasteless GG reference)

Who gives a * whether you got a text or not, it is irrelevant, completely.

It is the most annoying childish trait of a complete tosser.

Topher is increasingly replying to all posts in this manner....

Yeah I've done that before, yeah I am going on Saturday to see him, Yeah I saw that Too, well I saw him like well before you did, I have one of those/(I don't have one of those I used to but they are rubbish)

I just find it increasingly tedious. You look at a thread anticipating something new and you just get a Topher post, Yeah me too.

As I say...tit.

I genuinely haven't noticed a change in my posting style, but I am looking forward to Saturday - it's only the second time that I have been to a comedy gig and I can't wait and as for Lewis, I am a motor racing fan, have been for years. In the same way that I only know a footballer when he hits the big time, a lot of people weren't aware of him before he came into F1, which is fine.

Thats a nice thing to do isn't it. Poor old Boboff, attempting to do one of the most difficult things many people ever try - ie give up smoking. How sensitive of you.

I bet he took it though.

I love this line:

"I was really embarrassed because my grandparents aren't supposed to think of me as someone sexual, they're supposed to think of me as a nice girl."

Especially considering that she's in Nuts & Zoo this week

However at least she also admits it's gone far out of proportion, but then again that's what the Daily Heil does regulary. Always love how they do mocking headlines in Private Eye, with the Daily Mail's logo then underneath: EVERYTHING GIVES YOU CANCER, HOUSE PRICES TO RISE, sums them up really ;)
