... And Possibly a New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly on Ice. Tonight, CH4 - 8pm

Image

I have only heard good things about this:

It seems hard to believe, what with his numerous charity singles and chat show appearances, but Peter Kay's affectionate spoof of reality shows such as The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent is his first TV work in four years.

With the popularity of shows like Strictly Come Dancing showing no sign of flagging, this one-off parody couldn't have timed itself better: Britain's Got the Pop Factor airs on Channel 4 on October 12 at 8pm

It's about time Mr Kay got back on our screens.

In my defence, Chris himself said earlier in the week that Bad Lashes would be first to go. That's how predictable it was.

Can't get a word in edge-ways what with Zoot goin on about it so much!

Phew, where to start, Chris was right, what such an accurate, bang-on parody of X-Factor. There was even a performance of Cest la vie from Geraldine, loved the way all the songs merged into each other, all the work that went into filming that, must've taken a couple of weeks. So many gags, just brilliant, even 'Foot-loose' was played during the Lionel Richie VT.

I thought it was hilarious. As Chris said, it was so well thought out and included everything you'd have expected.

However, it was so accurate that some of my flatmates just didn't get it at all - the observations were so spot on that they forgot it was taking the piss.

Dr Fox agreeing with everything that the lass sitting next to him said, then saying something totally different.

Free nelson mandella ella ella ella... sitting under my umberella

Haha, I did wonder if they were going to release it.
Geraldine's medley was fantastic.

Haha, saw on the credits, Gary Barlow helped Peter write the winning song, and now its actually on sale - purely to prove a point I suppose about those all too-frequent sob stories? If this is for real then I hope it gets to number 1, for comedic effect.

Did anyone notice that the price of a vote went up as the show went along? It was in the small print.

I may have to watch this again.

SAV1OUR, how did you find out about it? Did you know what it was going to be when you went to see it?

Yeah, I sometimes do a bit of extra work with the agency - All I knew was I had to just go down and it was something to do with Peter Kay.

They phoned me late one Saturday night begging me to go along because someone had dropped out, I had to be at Granada for 7am, and we sat there all day for the winner being announced, standing up and applauding spontaneously randomly shouting "R WAYNE!" or "2 up 2 down!" take after take as Cat Deely went "SHUT THE * UP!!" and we all laughed and Peter had to come out of character to tell us off for that, he wanted absolute silence for it. A great day, good laugh.

Really enjoyed it. But I have this horrible feeling that Simon Cowell was watching it and thinking...

"Memorable Melodies, eh? Different songs, different styles, showing off different talents... I'll just make a note of that..."

"So we could have the winner starting in another reality show the following week...?"

Lets hope that isnt the case and Peter Kay hasnt caused an extra 30 minuted to be added to the already long X factor finals...

Not quite, it was the original Mr Nasty I forget his blooming name, 'Nige' was it? Dr Fox wasn't judging back then. Kym Marsh is in Corrie nowadays.

There were funny parts, but I was generally disappointed. I think there were a lot of in-jokes that you need to be a regular viewer of the proper shows to get.

"Best vocals since Sonia" did make me laugh though - as well as some of the stuff Foot-loose mentioned.
