Honestly, I'm not looking forward to the football season. I saw enough of pre-season to be depressed about the ever increasing financial gap between English teams and the rest of europe. Scotland included. Its been bad enough watching the gap growing between the top two in Scotland and the rest up here over the last 15 years, but now England is doing the same with the rest of europe. Which would be fine, if the top four weren't pulling away from the rest in England!

Money is slowly destroying football. And no one seems to know how to level things off again. Other than try to stop the good teams from playing that is. Defensive football, depressing to watch.

A good book that examines how money has changed football is David Conn's The Beautiful Game. I enjoyed it even though Conn seems to loathe Wednesday.

It seems now that the Championship is where it's at, and the Premiership is a yawnfest.

I've thought that for a couple of seasons myself. The most interesting thing to watch in the Premiership is who finishes 5th or gets relegated. The SPL is similar in that who finishes 3rd is usually the entertaining bit. Both the Championship and the Scottish First Division are usually much closer and different every year - even when you take into account teams getting promoted. Someone who narrowly misses out on promotion one year can be fighting relegation the next.

Possibly my favourite part of the season is watching the playoffs. They've tried to do it in Scotland too, but they do a two-legged final which doesn't really work, and it doesn't get televised anyway.

Yup, the premiership's dull, has been for ages and it'll get worse as the mancs/chelsea pull away from Liverpool and Arsenal who in turn pull away from everyone else. Spurs may challenge for 4th this season as might Pompey but they don't have the squad to cope with both UEFA cup runs and challenging for a Champions League place. As for relegation, look no further than those who got promoted.

Football's crap these days, I'm off to watch rugby instead.

Nah, can't see it purely because you've not got the strength in depth at the back, couple of injuries/suspensions and you're relying on Senderos and Djourou.

I agree that is where i weakness lies, but i still feel that if we can get off to a good start like last season we can make a decent challenge again for the title especially as last year we gave the title to M@nc Utd.

it can be so dull at the top of the table, even being a liverpool fan, it's most likely to be Manure/Chelski for the title, i think that predicting the following might be more interesting:

> teams to be involved in the relegation battle and the ones to be relegated
> first managieral casulty
> most expensive flop
> best bargin
> top scorer

these are likely to be the more wide open discussion points.

I fancy Arsenal to be the team the others are chasing to break up the top four I'm afraid. I'd like to tip Liverpool for the title, but I don't see them doing it while Benitez and his rotation system are there.

Oh yeah, relegation...

I fancy West Brom to stay up, but then I have a lot of time for Tony Mowbray as a manager. Stoke and Hull... probably not. Not sure who'll join them. Something in my head is saying Middlesbrough, but that might just be because they couldn't beat us in the Algarve tournament a couple of weeks ago and we were rotten!

I'm guaranteeing another season in which Coventry fail to even get close to promotion, and are close to being relegated yet again.

I'm guaranteeing that no matter what happens between now and May, none of it will be as funny as last night.

Anyway, I've created a team on that one and will enter the league. Gone for an experimental approach of picking second choice defenders who won't play (apart from Carra) and splurging cash on forwards and midfielders.
