But, as they repeatedly pointed out, it wasn't the temperature of the water that was the problem, it was the taste.

The water machine was to create the ultimate in purified water!! Unfortunately, when the Dragons tasted it, it was stinking.

Aren't there machines that do that already?

Yeh, but this seriously took all manner of chemicals out apparently... They were discussing and showing just how many chemicals are in water before purification. Scary.

I missed the "science" (although I suspect it may have been sketchy anyway), but apparently it was a machine which made water out of air.

Yeah, but (and I may be barking up the completely wrong tree here) I'm pretty sure you can get water purifiers already.

Ah, I see.. so, presumably, extracts the moisture from the air in some way?

The Dragons saw it as a waste of time, because

a) the water bizarrely ended up stinking worse than it did before the process.

b) they said the Sellers would have to go door-to-door trying to drum up business for this particular project.

Yup, that was the USP - the filtering of the water was just an extra advantage.

But why HAS it gone so wrong though?

I think the Dragons threw them out because they recognised that they were a couple of pyramid-selling crooks on the make.

I think this was a bit unfair of the dragons as it was a brand new machine and most water filters on the market need a few goes before the water tastes good anyway.
b) they said the Sellers would have to go door-to-door trying to drum up business for this particular project.

I didn't understand what led them to believe that door-to-door pyramid schemes would be the only way to sell this. Anyone know?

O, the programme may be viewed on iplayer = making the unmissable unwatchable, for those who wish to see this contraption.

Yes, I didn't know they had those on the market at the moment. So much for that then!

Christ, it's already in existence. How embarassing. And no-one on the show picked up on that.

Like I said, I don;t think it was the product that made the Dragons decide against investing, I think it was the people. None of them became millionaires by giving money to dodgy blokes with a cheesy line in sales patter.

Yeah, I saw that one and this one on Engadget back in March.

Nope, they became billionaires by being dodgy blokes themselves.. you show me a self-made millionaire who hasn't done a dodgy deal!

I agree. That James one looks capable of anything.

Call me naïve, but I like to think you can become a billionaire with hard work, skill and a bit of luck.

True enough. And I can't make up my mind about James - on the one hand he has this lovely, gentle, soothing, friendly voice - on the other, he looks like he'd sell his own grandmother.

You're naïve.
