The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Does anyone know what type of machine Chris uses for playing jingles? I'm guessing it is a portable machine for the ones he uses frequently, and then cart-based machines for the other jingles. Am doing a radio show for student radio from autumn and would be interested in purchasing one. Ta.

When he had the studio filmed, we were given special peeks at the machine itself, they must have loads of stuff crammed on it. If you look closely, theres even 'Dom's Special Sauce' I'd love to have a good old rummage around on it, like a kid in a toy shop. As for the make of it or whatever, dunno, I'm just like Andy off've Little Britain, "Want that jingle machine"

Wow, that is cool! Pricey by the looks of it! Was hoping for something portable and attachable via a cable to the desk.

Could you not use the Sound Machine off here. That's what I did, twas the reason I first found this place....just make up your own .pak files (all instructions in the read me file I think).

The software's VCS dira! Cartplayer, some more info here:
http://www.vcs.de/media-broadcasting-so ... o.html?L=1

It's standard across most of our national network studios these days and is fully integrated with the rest of the dira! suite, so would probably be overkill for what you're doing. For portable audio playback, we tend to use one of these:

There are plenty of bits of software you can run for free (or quite cheaply) a quick google turns up this as something to try:

Cheers, thats really helpful and will be very useful, ta!

Thanks also Aran2000, i'd love to use that dira system sometime (Radio 1 oneday....?). The reason I want to use a sound machine/jingle machine is to try to distance the show i'm doing from all the other student radio shows. On the whole, student radio is rubbish, largely because every show sounds the same and there are ony 4 carts, 2 cd players and an external cable for iPods/mp3s etc. I want to make my show stand out, be creative and different, sound more professional. We'll be doing it from end of September, but i've been developing it for a good 2/3 months now. This sound machine will help a lot, once I get it installed, set up and I work out how to use it!

Cheers guys.

Hi guys,

I know this might be a little late, but maybe some of you are still there and can tell me if you know the CombiWave jingle machine. It would be great to know if someone actually uses it already and if you can recommend it....

Thanks

I could do with a free version that is working...I keep getting errors with Sonicart...gosh. There must be simpler and freeware jingle machines out there.

Zara Radio is the best free radio software out there by far.

I was one of the lucky winners of the AAA week competition to go on a tour of radio 1. The entire set-up seems pretty complicated, so many levers and buttons everywhere. The jingle machine seems like probably the easiest bit in comparison. I think Dev said that each presenter has their own page full of Jingles to use, or something like that? Interestingly the music also works on an entirely different system, so i guess when he's playing music not in the radio system (like White Christmas) he's imported it as a jingle?

Yep, each DJ has their own page
