Quite frankly S4B, all you have done here is derail an intelligent and reasonable discussion into a personal and petty attack, simply because you don't like someone standing up to you. That's a shame, but judging by your posting history, it isn't a surprise. I'll let you have the last word as you seem to need it, then hopefully this can get back on track.

Don't be pathetic, just because you can't answer my questions!

I haven't derailed anything, I have added my opinion! I think my opinion is as valid as any other. Which of my points above are not valid? I will let anyone stand up to me if their points are valid. There is nothing wrong with a healthy debate. You don't agree with my opinion I can see that but maybe that is because it's not what you want to hear.

I would like to know why you think you should have access to things that we pay for! If you do pay for it, as I said above, then fair enough but as you haven't said you do I doubt that is the case.

So please justify to us why you should be allowed things without paying for them.

S4B's petulant posturing aside, if anybody else has any insight into reasons behind the choices of iPlayer vs. YouTube distribution methods I'd be interested to hear them, and from my side I'll post back anything I come across elsewhere.

Console - could you tell me how you're finding out which server the content is hosted on? I checked the source code, but couldn't see it. Am I just missing it, or is there another way? Thanks. :)

The XML file that the embedded Flash player uses (the URL to which is in the source code of the page) determines where the Flash player looks for the video, either a direct URL on the BBC servers, or using the Akamai rtsp servers (the URL for which isn't as straight forward to discern).

cjedj, I don't think that this forum is the place where you will solve your difficulties. I think that you are misinterpreting Aled's answer as some sort of official BBC policy, which it isn't.

Having degenerated into a slanging match I'm going to close this thread and I suggest you contact the BBC directly about this matter, it won't be solved on chrismoyles.net.
