This is apparently from Digital Spy but I don't have a link:

Channel 4:
Tony Robinson has revealed that the classic BBC sitcom Blackadder could be revived in 2010.

The cast will reportedly meet later in the year to discuss potentially bringing back the show to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Blackadder II.

Robinson, who played the increasingly dimwitted Baldrick on the sitcom, told Teletext: "We always had a fantasy of doing it again in 2010, so we'll be having that conversation. I would love to do it and suspect Rowan Atkinson would too."

Created by Richard Curtis and Rowan Atkinson, then joined by writer Ben Elton for the second series, the BBC's Blackadder encompassed 24 episodes and three specials from 1983 to 1999.

The show revolved around Atkinson's snobbish Edmund Blackadder character as he appeared in various incarnations through different periods of British history.

Yay or nay? Discuss.

I shall repeat what I just said to you and that is that it's a bit risky. Some things should be left as the classics they are remembered as.. it'll go one of two ways; it'll either be brilliant or it'll be shit.

I wrote about Blackadder in my english exam. It made me smile. :)

I think it would be ok as long as they jumped to a completely different period in history, rather than attempt to do a continuation of one of the series already made.

I was wondering what period they'd do as well; World War II, as foot-loose said is a bit obvious (and too similar to 'Goes Forth'); they'd need to go after World War I though.

It might be interesting to do Now. Well, it might be deadly dull, but I reckon Robinson, Atkinson Curtis et al might make it interesting.

I loved Blackadder, and I'm inclined to say leave well alone, it's a classic. Having said that I'd love to see some new material. There was some talk years ago that the next time period would be set in the future. Not sure that would work some how. The first world war series was the best for me, just hilarious.

For me the third series was the best. The Prince Regent was fantastic and the dictionary episode was my favourite of any Blackadder episode. After that I'm torn between series 2 and 4. Series 1 I'm not keen on.

Same for me, series 4 was good, but I did prefer series 3. Series 1 wasn't particularly good, but there were a few funny moments. I thought the Christmas special was very good, too - I wasn't particularly fond of the 'Back and Forth' special, though.

I think my favourite episode was (I forget the episode name and series) the one with Tom Baker as Captain Red Beard Rum.

"You sir, have a woman's purse...."

In series one, Edmund seemed to have a very strange look on his face permanently. I dont know whether the writing team was different from series 2 onwards, but series one did nothing for me. Deeply un funny. Proof that patience is needed to let new material 'bed in'. Not too sure if it was made now that they'd get a second series made based on the first.

If that was the one with Sir Walter 'Oh what a big ship I've got' Raleigh (and I think it was), then it was called 'Potato'.

(That was in reply to Zoot's post.)

I think series 1 was written by Curtis and Atkinson, whereas from series 2 onwards Ben Elton was involved as well. Something like that anyway.

Pure class!!:

Lord Percy: My Lord! I have waited on your return!
Lord Percy: [hugs Blackadder]
Blackadder: And thank God you did, Percy, for I was just thinking to myself, "My God, I die in 12 hours, what I really need now is a hug from a complete prat."
Lord Percy: After literally an hour's ceaseless searching, I have succeeded in creating gold, pure gold.
Blackadder: Are you sure?
Lord Percy: Yes, my lord. Behold.
Blackadder: Percy... it's green.
Lord Percy: That's right, my lord.
Blackadder: Yes, Percy, I don't want to be pedantic or anything, but the colour of gold is gold. That's why it's *called* gold. What you have discovered, if it has a name, is "green".
Lord Percy: Oh, Edmund, can it be true, that I hold here in my mortal hand a nugget of purest green?
Blackadder: Indeed you do, Percy, except, of course, it's not really a nugget, it's more of a splat.
Lord Percy: Well, yes, a splat today... but tomorrow - who knows, or dares to dream?
Blackadder: So we three alone in all the world can produce the finest green at will?
Lord Percy: Just so. Not sure about counting in Baldrick, actually.

I worry that if they do a new series, they would need to make it as cheaply as they did the last ones, otherwise it wouldnt look right. But if they did that today, it would look tacky. So they would need to modernise it. But then it would look too modern...!

If they make it, Ill watch it, then complain about it.

Anyway I just read a thing in the Sun that said Rowan Atikinson has ruled it out......

about as reliable as Iain Smith's reporting then.

I don't particularly like Blackadder (just never really saw why it was so funny), but it'd be interesting to see where they go with the 2010 series.
