I agree. It's been happening for years, why are people only starting to whine about it now?

Because the political voting isn't going our way.

And yes I did watch it. But it doesn't mean I care about it.

Okay, i didnt watch it this year because someone stole the tv to play repeats of Grand Designs Live (kill me now).
So someone give me the low down:

1. How appaulingly sh*t was it?
2. Were the country votes the usual political 'we like you' and 'we don't like you' rubbish?
3. Did we come last again?
4. Did we get any points that werent from France or Ireland?
5. Were |reland even in it?
6. What was our song called (for youtubing later)?
7. What was the token pants song called and by what country (also for youtubing, im on about songs like 'danzing' or the one with transvestites with dead fox scarves from last year)?
8. Were there any good songs, at all, if so, what were they?
9. Any prize 'live tv' moments, or prize Wogan moments?
10. Other...

Honey if you read this thread you should get the gist of all of those answers.

Andy it's not because the political voting isn't going our way it's because

1. the songs were rubbish without being funny
2. Wogan didn't have enough to drink so he wasn't as funny
3. the political voting was even more political than usual, we're used to Scandinavian countries voting for each other etc, etc but this year was just an Eastern European fest so if they want it so much let them pay for it.

I honestly usually enjoy it, don't expect - or indeed want us - to win, this year I didn't. I do, however, expect it to be a little less arse licky than it was.

Without going back through what started to look like a running commentary of the show as it happened (I skipped several pages of this thread so I may be covering old ground here), what is the big deal with Eurovision now? Everyone knows it's a farce and has been for years, why are we spitting our proverbial dummies out this time round? I heard interviews this morning from people who are taking the whole thing far too seriously.

I didn;t watch it this year because it is incredibly annoying. The reasons i dislike it are not because I think UK should win (mostly we really, really shouldn't.....) but because we (the UK) bankroll this competition, and as such I think the system of determinig the winner should be accountable and transparent.

I know it is a public vote, and I'm sure it is a fair one, but the obvious reality is that the public are not voting for the songs, they are voting for their neighbours. That being established, the system of determining the winner needs to be changed to ensure that geographical and political bias is not a factor.

Do that, and we still won't win because we usually have shit songs, but at least if we DID come up with something decent (like we did this year) we would be in there with a fighting chance. Like I said before, if our song had been entered by almost any other country it would have won, or at least finished top 3.

Eurovision costs the UK a fortune every year. I think it's time to insist that our money is used better, or stop subsidising it.

I would have voted for the Armenian entry if I had been watching it live, loved the Israeli one too and I couldn't believe how beautiful that Serbian singer looked!

Watched the Romanian final tonight instead of the UK final and I think Romania have made my mind up of who I'm going to root for this year.

I'm sure with a name like "the Balkan girls" they'll get votes from all the former Yugoslav states, Bulgaria, Greece, Albania... So yeah, they'll probably win.

The Beatles would have to respawn, reform, and enter the competition for us not to lose badly again.

If Katrina and the bloody Waves can do it then I'm sure we don't need to clone the Beatles just yet.

Well, we have got a Leona Lewis wannabe singing a formulaic Andrew Lloyd Webber anthem. How exactly is this going to help us?

Apparently, when Sir Andrew went to the Eastern bloc countries and the Balkan states and actually asked why they always do this neighbour-voting thing, and why even when we have a good entry (which we do sometimes) they never give us any votes, he came away with the impression that other countries will never vote for us because they don't like the way we treat the whole thing as a bit of a laugh.

Well, if winning it means we have to pretend to take it seriously, I'm happy to carry on coming last.
