Hi all,
This isn't just about the chris moyles show but accross the whole of radio 1, all of the newest songs have the station's id at the beginning of them but mixed into the song. (the bit of music that sounds like #Radio 1#) I think it's great! Has anyone else noticed this? i'l post a sound clip of your unsure of what im on about :)

They have been doing it for a while now.

Unfortunatly, it reminds me of one of our local radio stations who did the same thing with their jingles a few years back - it sounded terrible. Radio 1 have done it a lot better though.

It's very clever! I can't get my head round how they make the transition sound so seamless.
However, on the other hand they are putting their brand into the fabric of the music now - it's brainwashing I tells thee. :D

Yeah I quite like them. Everyone other than Moyles uses them as jingles at the end of Newsbeat as well. It sounds similar to the du du du duu Newsbeat noise anyway so it works really well.

They are called " Stringers " or when they have the DJ's names in they are called " DJ ID " the two are basically the same apart form the latter has the DJ's name in. Scott Mills and Chris Moyles are the only day time DJ's that can go from stringer to song seamlessly, the specialist DJ's have this down to a fine art. You can now buy software to make the change form Stringer to song, this is for DJ's that can't do it themselves I'm not sure weather they have them at Radio 1 or not.

Hope that helps ! :D

Interesting info, thanks Tom.

As the playlist is so repetitive, it's got to the point where I know what the song will be from the stringer!

I know the words to almost all the songs on the playlist. Too much radio.

They actually take the beginning of the song and remix it into the station id. I assumed that it was something radio 1 had done to all new songs. - edited it onto the begining of them so the dj's just have to play them. Is there software that will do this in realtime then?

Yes, It's a very cleaver piece of kit. Basically the way to make the change from the Stringer to the song sound seamless is to make sure the bass lines don't clash, The computer will slow the stringer down so It's bass line is in time with the song. This then gives the effect that the change was seamless and it all ends up sounding jolly good !

Id imagine that they would get someone like Music 4 to do them - get the tracks in, 20 mins with a couple of instruments, wham bam, jobs done.

Ok Chris !

Inside Tom's mind: " Don't care any more about spelling and grammar, I refuse to get even slightly annoyed "

Different people care about different things, the world would be boring if we were all the same. :D

I do. There's no point in my disabling smileys because I still know they're there and it grates me (excessive use of smileys that is.. this is defined as either too many in posts following each other, too many in succession by the same post author, or too many in the same post / sentence.) Very rarely I use them, but certainly not to excess.

On the other hand, if you wish to use this one: 8O, then feel free. It makes me chuckle.

God, I sound like I'm making rules.. note, apologies Chris. I have been to the pub and I'm tipsy.

This is true.

However - I believe that note should be made of the recent spate of good posts offered by tom greeni - it has been noticeable to me that he is doing a lot less spamming and actually contributing in several threads. Also, he clearly HAS made an effort with his spelling and grammar and made a significant improvement - whilst still not perfect, he is now a long way from being the worst offender on the boards.
