30 mins is more than enough time to pull to the side of the road or get off the tube and go to a quiet place and call the show and explain the situation. You never know they may be able to do a interview style hookup thing over the phone instead if there is force majeure. Yes the interview may not be as good over the phone but at least the interview will still take place in a kind of way, only if CM was willing to accept this kind of set-up in only major circumstances, and it would not become par for the course with guests.

Not at all. I like how they have the balls to bump late guests and they're quite right to do so. The only downside is when they do that, that tends to be all I hear about during my drive to work.
