Tom and geek - yes, spelling and grammar are important and the average performance in these areas of the vast majority of under 18s who post on this site indicates that we are raising a doomed generation because, as s4b said, without education we are nothing. Also no, it isn't fine as long as others can tell what you mean, if that is your level of aspiration then you are being lazy. However - geek, I haven't seen much if any evidence that you are a dreadful "speller" as you said, and tom, keep trying - and know you aren't the worst by a long way.

As far as being pulled up for it on here - well, it's a fact of life we all have to live with, so - learn to live with it!

Hi SpaceBoy. I'm the geek that Yudster was refering to. It's a nickname that a lot of my friends use when talking to me as a joke because I study a lot and am at uni studying physics. I also happily admit that I enjoyed school, enjoy maths and science subjects, ect making me a bit of a geek. Personally I don't mind being called a geek by my friends because I know they only mean it as a joke.

I agree with you Zoot. Geeks are the ones that get the well paying jobs later in life. They are also the ones who's opinion tends to be respected more than other people becaues they know more about their chosen subjects. The way I see it is if Im called a geek then its a compliment rather than an insult.

Sorry for the misunderstanding Spaceboy - I was indeed referring to "geek" the member. It's not a term I would use perjoratively myself! I've been enjoying your contributions by the way, geeky or otherwise.

Hi Folks, I got a bit confused there, what with the 5144 members to remember names of it could get complicated quite quickly. Sometimes is am known as oracle at work and also sad'o, Boring Sh*te, Do I like the Folks I work with? yes! Reading that last sentence back though it is debateable! If I do have a Spasm all over the keyboard and start typing in binary code start worrying and let me know!

I agree with Geek and Zoot about clever folks and geeks getting the better jobs in life. One powerful example I was told when I was at School back in the day, was "What do you call a swot in 10 years time? (the teacher at this stage would get animated and start shouting out further) what do you call a swot in 10 years time? ..... No? No one Knows! I'll tell you what you call a swot in 10 years time, ..... You call him BOSSSSSSSSSSS!" (a really drawn out boss pronunciation for emphasis) A brilliant teacher!

I was actually typing in ASCII code which uses 7 bits and not the ISO 8859-1 character code! If you want a geek- off as Yudster puts it then play your card. But Yudster I think it is a bit unfair as it is more biased towards Geek as his username forms part of the challenge.
