The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Just read on the facebook fan page that Chris isn't allowed to promote Doug Walker's single 'The Mystery', and isn't allowed to try and get it into the Top 100 or Top 40.

Now this seems a little odd. I'm aware that you can't just advertise something like that, but how does this differ from promoting something like Space Pirates or The Hoff's single or the Ladies' Bras (from Scott's show)?

Is there really a restriction on mentioning the single, or is it a clever way of promoting it?

He did the same with Honey to the Bee, i cant see why this is any different.

Just seems like fickle politics to me.

Where abouts is this on the Facebook Page? I can't seem to find it.

I was just about to start a thread on here pushing the Doug Walker song and asking for people's opinions, would have been interesting to see the power he has from playing something on his show alone!

Edit - I haven't finished listening to the show yet, so maybe he says it on there.

the bbc isnt suppose to advertise but i suppose they make exceptions for songs with comical value but this morning chris complained about not allowing doug on the radio 1 playlist but there is a part which allows djs to have a record of the week but chris doesnt have one. This odd as he is one of their top djs where as greg james has one and he is just a pup.

I think not having a record of the week is Chris's choice, he used to have one on afternoons if i remember correctly.

I don't think he did.. I could be wrong, but I thought he only had one on the Saturday shows and that was only for a short while to take the piss (because they only had one Saturday show a week, obviously.)

I always worry about posting this sort of stuff up, because there's often a reason why it's left to a private message like that.

Chris has asked me to send out a little update to all 270,000 of you - the fans of The Chris Moyles Show.

Chris is being told he can't get Doug into the top 100 let alone the top 40. I'm one of those people if I was honest. Chris is offended by this - and that people doubt Chris and the power of you, his fans.

I can't tell you to buy Doug Walker and The Mystery from any of the legal music download sites (e.g. Amazon, Yahoo or iTunes) in fact, as a doubter I'd actually tell you not to.

I just thought I should let you know Chris' position on the matter. :)

Wow that's a bit strong! Why shouldn't he be allowed to? Colin Murray only just did this at Christmas with his 'Get Malcom Middleton to Christmas No. 1' campaign.
Maybe this is part of the 'BBC transparency' that is coming into effect?

Hmmm, i dont know what to make of that. reading it one way, it's saying that he cant get it into the top 40 because it's not good enough, hence it wasn't on the play list, and Chris is offended that people doubt what 'power' he has, but reading it the other way, he's been banned from promoting it.

I'm confused!

Edit, i actually think it's the first of the 2

I don't know if I'm reading this thread wrong, or if I'm just tired and not reading things correctly, but isn't Chris being told that he won't be able to get the song in the charts, not that he's not allowed to get it in the charts.

I can't stand the song myself, and would strongly agree that it won't get in the charts - I prefer that 'Chuff' record over 'The Mystery'.

I'm sure we can expect some response from Chris in tomorrow's show - he obviously has been annoyed and has asked Aled to message everyone immediatley!

I don't mind the song, it's nice and happy and catchy etc but it's not something I'd buy on its own.
I might be willing to spend 78p on it if it makes a statement against the playlist though ;)

Right, let me get this straight. This is the guy that stood outside the radio 1 studio trying to get airplay? Am I right to believe that Moyles gave the guy his break so to speak? Played his song on the air?

So there's this new upstart, wanting to hit the big time... and Moyles gives him his chance. It's clear that Moyles thinks the lad has some talent/potential. Moyles is in the industry, he has contacts, we all hear about Dave Vitty Management....... perhaps there's a Chris Moyles Management... after all he got to Doug first.

Of course this would create a conflict of interest due to the nature of Moyle's work. The BBC would therefore be justified in forbidding him from plugging a single for his own gain.

It's just a theory is all...... but it's probably right.

Of course if I'm thinking about the wrong Doug Walker, then the above is bollocks.

I think Chris just likes the song and thinks it deserves some air play :D

Does seem apparent that there's two ways of looking at it, which is why I posted here. From first view it looked like they weren't allowed to promote it, hence why Aled was using Facebook.

I'm not sure how he can have been told he can't play it or promote it - he did both yesterday and today.

I can only imagine that the reason for Radio 1 kicking up a fuss about this is because other artists pay Radio 1 to play and promote their music (hence why Rachel and Aled kick off when Chris doesn't play certain tracks, especially a Chart Number 1) and so if DW gets free air play the other artists, i'm assuming, are going to kick up a fuss as well - although, as people have said - i don't see the difference between promoting DWs song and the promotion of other songs that other DJs such as Scott Mills have promoted?!

It's madness.

Just to add to this, I too shall be deducting some pennies towards getting the song.

I'm telling you, he denied it this morning, but I bet Moyles has got his fingers in the pie.

I'll buy it as a statement against the Radio 1 playlist, but I don't particularly like the song.

When you have 276,000 people on a facebook page, which increases by 1000+ per day, a fair few of which regularly listen to the show, Facebook is a good way of getting around that I think?

He's a Radio Presenter, its their job to champion music they like? Actually, why isn't he allowed to promote him?

Look, it's fairly clear that he hasn't actually been told he can't promote it. If he had been told this, then he surely wouldn't be promoting it every day, which he is. I'd have thought the only barrier Radio 1 have put up is that they didn't put it on the playlist, which is not the same as telling Chris he can't promote it or play it.
