Yesterday afternoon, Edith's "Topic of the Day" was regarding incentives to exercise!

It seems that in some schools now, straighters are being introduced for female pupils for after gym, as an incentive to do more P.E. Hmmm.

What would make you go more regularly to the gym? the pool? play more tennis, etc., etc.?

Damn, I do mean straighteners!! These are to make hair straight, Console. You should look up a "girl" website, Console.

I know what they do (they're like hair irons), but why would hair straighteners be an incentive to do exercise - I can only assume that it's some sort of bribe.

Because teenage girls want their hair to be poker straight and when they do P.E they need to tie it up but i think it is stupid because i girl can get portable straighteners if they care that much about it.

I think there is a concept that females do not like to get into a mess, thus straighteners at the end of the session would mean they can become nice & neat again.. Personally, I do exercise so I CAN get into a mess, but that's just me! :-)

I'd like to see a nice, healthy looking vending machine installed locally, with nice salads, etc., instead of the normal selection of choc related snacks.

No the point is to make girls do more p.e lessons but if a girl is that bothered about her hair then she would find a way of doing her hair after p.e anyway, with out the need for people to fork out money to buy straighteners. Also how many straighteners are they going to get? There will be a queue for using them meaning people will be late to their next lesson.

Haha. That made me laugh. (Temporarily?? Damn..)

I need to start the gym again soon. My incentive is that it's free, because there's one at work (well, it's a small room with a few bits of gym equipment in), but I get put off by the fact that I don't like being up that early in the morning. I will start in a week or so though.

I don't know how people can go to gyms before going to work.. that would knock me out for the rest of the day.

Of all the 'girl websites' i've been on, they've never mentioned hair straighteners....

It's horrible to begin with (I hate getting up in the morning) but I always feel brilliant afterwards, and I end up with more energy throughout the day as a result.

It wakes me up nicely when I go. Obviously, we have a shower too, so as long as I don't forget my shoes or tie (which I have been known to do), it sets me up nicely for the day.

You should try it Viv, if you can get up for it, it's great.

i used to be in the swimming pool by 7am, swim a mile and off to start my day by quarter past 8. I hated having to wash my hair everyday and all the chemicals.

You can get shampoos to deal with chlorine. I prefer to swim in the afternoons, or evenings. In the morning, I'm in a state of total collapse, and any exercise would just send me over the edge.
