The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

As you probably know from listening this morning and in the past to the show if a guest is half an hour (or more) late then they are cut from the show. I am asking is this rule right or wrong (as per the discussion this morning on the show concerning Adrian Chiles)?

I was going to start a thread on this, but forgot.

I think perhaps Chris was a little harsh this morning. However much he'd like to think that radio uses the same rules as television, it really doesn't. It's a lot more flexible and the fact that his show isn't scripted clearly means that they can pad untill the guest arrives - they'd be doing it the whole show if he wasnt due on anyway.
I agree that anything scripted needs to have a tight timeframe - but Chris makes a point that his show is fluid and that anything can happen. The fact that he himself is occasionally late only backs up the fact that timing isn't as flexible as TV.

I think people are now well aware that if they are late then they don't get to go on. I detest poor timekeeping in any situation. Chris is right, he can't have one rule for one and then one for another.

I do agree that because had that rule, he was right to keep it.
I just question whether he was right to make the rule in the first place when one of the advantages of radio broadcasting is that it can be more flexible than TV.

Am I correct to deduce from this that Chiles wasn't allowed on this morning then?

Yes - I think he is on later this week.
He actually came in to the studio to apologise to Chris off-air, and he found the whole thing rather akward!

Radio is more flexible than TV. If Chiles had turned up within that half hour he would have been on, and as you say, he may be on later this week.

I think more than half an hour late is a piss take and like S4 i HATE poor time keeping.

That bit was brilliant, and I've quoted Dominic in my sig, had an image of what that must've looked like.

EDIT - That lass Adrian presents with has said she loves Moyles, that might just swing it for a second chance.

Did anyone notice the advert for the Chris Moyles show at the end of The One show's credits.

All well and good but the BBC announcer said "You can listen again to Adrian Chiles chatting to Chris Moyles on the Radio 1 breakfast show this morning at bbc.co.uk.....".

Take it no one told them! Ooops...

What exactly is he on for, has he got a book to promote?

I tend to think of him as a bloke that presents some shows, but not necessarily as much of a personality (though obviously I could be wrong with that).

Ah, I'd have thought they may make an exception for that (not that I'd have agreed with them doing that), seeing as it's something Radio 1 and the show tends to get heavily involved with.

Yeah he was, i was listening during the first 5/10 mins. I think he then came into the studio while they played the first couple of songs.

The rule is correct... guests have plenty of respect for TV appearances, yet treat radio in less important fashion.

5 or 10 mins is not half an hour and to be fair he gets up EVERY weekday to make sure we get up. No wonder he thinks we all hate him! Cut him some slack. You never been 5 mins late for work?

Not sure if that was directed at me or not, but just in case - I am laughing at the fact that the situation is ironic. There is no implicit dig at CM in that, other than the one you may be making. I have no problem with the fact that he is late every now and again, however that does not blind me to the irony of a situation where he cans a guest for being late, and then is late himself the next morning - the two things can happily co-exist.
