Ah, I see. I develop websites, which is a little different from designing, but not so much that it'd make much difference to most people. I also don't really do much website developing for work, I try to keep it purely as a hobby.

I am kind of an amateur developer (to a degree) in my spare time but I certainly can't design anything to look good.

So very, very true. I can make functional layouts, but they rarely look nice unless I'm copying a design from somewhere.
