So 36 years after they were initially published the Mr Men are having a makeover. I am outraged.

Should Mr Strong look like this?

The whole thing is ludicrous. These characters have no need of a makeover. Some of them have even changed sex.
A couple of new characters are being introduced -
Mr Rude who speaks in a French accent and farts incessantly (oh that'll cement Anglo-French relations)
Little Miss Daredevil who is basically a stereotypical Essex girl (apologies to Yuds and Lottie) with long blonde hair and white stilletoes (sp)

Mr Fussy has had his name changed to Mr Persnickety!

What is going on with the world? Is nothing sacred?

I love the idea of Mr Rude being a Frenchman. Mr Persnickety ought to be German. And Mr Lazy should be Greek.

Yuds the thing I loved about the Mr Men was that they were kind of unique in race, creed and colour. Their shape didn't matter because they said it all in their name and their story. In an age where even Chris and Co are trying to stop people being so image conscious is it right for children to see the Mr Men change their shape or gender to conform with societies view of their names? It makes no sense and brings the whole ridiculous self image question to children of an even younger age!

I guess if you feel that Mr Men in their original form were a valuable addition to the canon of childrens fiction then it might matter. For me, I wouldn't bother with them either way, but I guess I have to agree - were they broken? Doesn't look like it. So why the fix? If I had to choose I would go with the originals, humourless though they were.

I always liked the Mr Men series, but giving Mr Strong a weightlifting belt is Health & Safety gone mad, and a frenchman is a good stereotype for Mr Rude. we all know they are pretty rude anyway.

they shouldnt of changed them. they were perfectly fine as they were! when i was younger i had the whole book range!

Mr Men is something that you don't tamper with, it's a classic and everyone loves it just the way it is, i just don't understand why they have to go ruin it...

Next thing you know they'll be changing Scooby Doo which is still running or another classic show.
