Surely Milton Keynes didn't "buy" the football team, or even steal it? As I remember Wimbledon was in very deep financial trouble, and the package the directors came up with to keep it alive involved a relocation to somewhere less expensive to be (which, compared to Wimbledon could have been almost anywhere)? I don't think the initiative came from Milton keynes did it?

Milton Keynes wasn't the only potential moving place for Wimbledon.

I'd have been happier, had we reared our own football team from scratch years ago, but really, in days of old, football teams have moved down the road before.. and in this day and age of globalisation, Wimbledon isn't a hell of a lot further than "down the road" from Milton Keynes.

But why couldnt the new owners and investors keep the team in london where they has been for their whole existance? They were playing in a 25,000 seater ground, and getting average crowds of 3,000 when people knew about the move! NO-ONE wanted them to move to MK. Hence why nearly every football fan in the country calls them "Franchise FC"

Because they couldn't afford to stay in London. They were in extraordinarily deep do-do financially. London - especially South West London - is one of the most expensive places to lease property or land in the world. Milton Keynes, strangely, isn't.

It's still not cheap (even compared with a lot of today's property and land prices) because of its proximity to London. But yes, a hell of a lot cheaper than actually being in London.

Funny because Wimbledon Tennis courts aren't actually in Wimbledon...you need to get off at Southfields on the District line. Whatever you do don't take the Northern line to South Wimbledon just because you get off at Waterloo or Kings Corss and don't fancy changing...you'll end up in the middle of no-where..

The Wombles already know this though.....they have an Oyster...Unlce Blugaria gets his travel free after 9am!
