...due to a conversation a moment ago with a member of this esteemed* forum, I would like someone to clear something up for me. H'apparently there is a man who goes by the name of Barry Scott who appears in adverts for Cillit Bang. Also apparently, he has become something of a cult icon. Having watched one of these adverts on Youtube, I'm at a * loss as to why. It's an advert for a cleaning agent that is the same as the adverts for every other cleaning agent.**

*allegedly
**That is: "[name of cleaning agent] is brilliant, it cleans every * surface ever... except for the 95,000 listed on the back that it will totally ruin if you even spill a drop on to it."

His cult status is a mystery to me too. He just yells a lot and is very excitable about his product. I think he's kind of rude really, if I went about yelling at my customers I'm fairly confident no one would come in and I wouldn't be elevated to cult status.

That's so funny! The adverts are deafening. We have them here, too. The upshot of this post, Toph? No, I can't explain his cult status. He's a loudmouth salesman

Could be because he constantly sounds over enthusiastic

That's hardly a valid reason to become a cult figure.

I believe he is a "cult icon" because a mix was made out of his "Cillit Bang" ad (a song mix, I mean).

I would have thought a song mix was made because he became a cult icon, rather than the other way round?

There was a guy on Colin Murray last night, who apparently does parodies of this kind of thing (as well as some impressions and some genuine advert voiceovers.) He was quite funny actually, his Wogan impression was very good. I didn't quite catch his name though.
