I know I said I wouldn't create another topic today, but I can't help myself!

On the subject of hypnosis, have any of you actually been hypnotised, and did it work? It seems there is a certain percentage of people who simply cannot be hypnotised.

I went for hypnosis in the early 90's, and it totally didn't work. Any similar experiences?

Yeah, it's somewhere around the 100% mark, isn't it?

I think hypnosis is a fairly well understood pehenomenon in medical terms - not so sure about the entertainment variety though. It looks pretty genuine when Paul McKenna does it though!

It can work. It worked for a former colleague, who was able to stop smoking. For me, it was just a total disaster.

OK, I'll concede in the medical field, there are probably some people who do it, but I am totally sceptical about those who do it on TV (including Paul McKenna.. can he really just say "sleep" and that'll put them in a trance?)

I don't know, I've never ben hypnotised - but lots of people seem to genuinely think it has happened to them, so I'm not dismissing it entirely. Richard Hammond said he was totally flabbergasted when he saw the film of what Paul McKenna did to him, and olots of people have said similar things. I don't know.

True. My mum's nextdoor neighbour did try to hypnotise me before, she claimed that she could do it (I'm not totally sure this is true.. though I'm sure she believes she can). It didn't really work, though it's possible that my complete inability to relax contributed to this.

I wonder if an inability to relax - perhaps especially when someone is telling you to relax - is a trait which you and Viv share? From things she's said on other subjects, I think it is something she experiences too, and she hasn't been able to be hypnotised either.

My inability to relax is usually attributed to my muscles, but it could be extended to this as well I guess.

I can hypnotise people....I read a book on it and everything...no-one'll let me practise on them though....
