Jeremy Beadle has died! RIP. I wasn't a fan but I know he will be missed.

I never liked the type of TV Mr Beadle was associated with, but somehow I always liked him. A clever man, an astute broadcaster, and in recent years a prolific fundraiser - I met him once, very briefly, many years ago. Going by my usual observation with famous people that you can often tell a lot about what they are really like by watching how they speak to the "little people" when the cameras aren't on, I though he was great. I'm very sorry he's gone.

Rest in the Floor Laughing? Are you combining two acronyms with totally different meanings?

It's not! You watch! It's gonna take right off.

Years ago, my friend's husband used to hate how I used to abbreviate stuff. For example, I would call the Royal Bank of Scotland, the RBOS, etc., etc.
I told him at the time abbreviations are the future. Nowadays, everyone texts, so I was right! I'm ahead of my time, I think. :-)

Abbreviations make people seem less intelligent.

I disagree. As long as they are not continually used to replace speech, it's all good, I think. :-) It can also be an efficient way of taking down messages over the 'phone. I generally use shorthand though (Teeline).
