I cant change mine...Corporate Screensaver... its so boring!!!

It's not particularly difficult to learn, it's just that there is a bit of a learning curve at the beginning that most people aren't willing to get over.

Surely you shouldn't get to a point where the screensaver kicks in, if you're at work (with the possible exception of when you're at lunch, in which case you should only see it for a few seconds while walking back to your desk)?

I've never understood the fascination with screensavers. They're just a (potentially) dangerous waste of space.

But isn't it bad for a computer to be sitting there with no action happening? i.e. someone working on it? Is this not the point to screensaver action?

Generally there's no need for them now, as not many people still have CRT monitors (though I think there is still a use for them on plasma monitors.) You can easily get round using screensavers (and save energy) by turning your monitor off if you're not working on your computer for the time being.

The point of a screen-saver is to save the screen. If older CRT monitors had the same image on a screen for a prolonged length of time then it could 'burn' the images onto the screen. With newer CRT monitors, and all LCD and Plasma monitors, this isn't a problem.

Well, they kind of are and they aren't. Much older Plasmas may still have the problem to a degree, but when you've had Plasma screens for a while the probability of burn-in is reduced significantly. Newer Plasma screens have technology in them that further reduces the likelyhood of burn-in. Still, in this day and age of saving energy we should be having out screens go on to stand-by (or turn-off completely), not wasting power by running a screen-saver.

the Image burn happens on Plasma TVs, We had a party a while back and the Xbox was on playing all the music, The TV was on the same image for ages for the music player, when i turned the TV off the image was still there, it did go after a while but i think it could have done some damage, its a new plasma, only about 6 months old made by Panasonic.

That's not burn-in, that's just ghosting. Burn-in is where a particular image can be seen all the time on a screen, like it's been burnt onto the glass/plastic. Ghosting, while annoying, isn't as bad as burn-in, or as serious.

Im not sure if its really disrespectful... i think things just lead from one thing to another.... i find quite a few of my conversations do that.... will be talking about one thing then end up talking about something else entirely

My screensaver at home is a montage of pics of Suicide girls, burlesque models, Coffin Case models and Monica Belluci. I have no need for it as I have a flatscreen monitor, but it rules anyway.
