Normally I'd just bug Mr Console with this sort of thing (another Roger Hargreaves Classic now sadly out of print) but he's probably getting peed off with my constant messaging of him with "How do I turn the screen sideways?" type questions....

So instead I though I'd throw this one open to everyone.....

On you tube I can't watch any videos on my new laptop. The page comes up with all the other information around it but there is no picture, no sound and no black box where the video should be loading either. I get nothing, nada, zilch, zip, etc etc...

Now then, I've uninstaled Flash, re-booted the laptop and then re-installed it however it says I should be able to see a video or something when It's successful and again nothing happens, I just get nothing.

As far as I know windows is set as the default streaming thingy (although I'm not sure how to check) and other than that I've run out of ideas....

Anyone got any hints, suggestions, advice etc I'd greatly appreciate it...

Oh and the chatroom doesn't work...

Just wanted to add, it works on my user log in but not on this one (missus') and she loves You tube...I'm not giving her access to my log on for fear that she may find....well nothing you lot need to worry about.

It's obviously a flash problem. I'd try and get hold of the executable installer, rather than installing it through your browser to see if that helps. What browser are you using out of interest?

I.E. 7 - I'll give it a go but it works on my other log on?

It may also be worth checking if the laptop came with an anti-spyware product or something similar that is set to block flash applications.

There is a Flash removal tool online (Google it) and this worked for me a few weeks back. When you un install Flash some remnants are left behind hence the need for the tool. If you still have no joy try installing an older version of flash (again Google). :)

I've disabled all the internet protection stuff and the thing I don't get is I've totally removed the account and re-created it and it's still not working when it works on the other log on....

Wish I knew more about this sort of thing.

I think when you delete a Windows account the "Documents and Settings" directory for that user remains. It may be worth going to your C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe and deleting the 'Flash' directory (same in C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Adobe if it exists there too.)

I had a similar problem when I installed IE7 a few months ago, Andy.

I think the problem was solved when I faffed about with the add-ons settings - I think I needed to download another one. Click "tools, manage add-ons, find add-ons" to get to the right page. Have a look round there. I might be wrong though.

I did tell Vista (CRAP!) to delete everything but I'll give it a go I guess....

Having faffed about with vista on dads new laptop, ive decided that it is pretty much identical to xp. The only way you notice a difference is if you go for the high end version (and possibly a newer version thats coming out later this year).

Ah Vista.. in which case, for "Documents and Settings", read "Users" (I think.) I think the Application Data and Local Settings\Application Data directories are still there.

My feelings exactly with regard to Vista, I shall carry on with XP until I really have to switch. Having said that each succesive version of windows has been slated, so I guess a little bit of it comes down to familiarity.

True...what if I give the accout a differnent name? I mean delete it, create a new one but call it something different, that should work in theory to get around the saved settings.

Don't know why it doesn't just copy the settings from my log on.

Just try deleting the account, then logging on as someone else (with admin privileges), go to (assuming the C drive is your system drive) C:\Users and deleting the directory for the username you just deleted. Then recreate the account. Or, your way should work too (if, as you say, it works on other accounts).
