The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Afternoon board,

New forum user here, longtime reader, first time poster. I have seen some of the receptions some new members have got on here, so im ready just incase.

Main reason for my registering is more through annoyance, than appreciation for the show.

Before I get to my main gripe, I have to say, I love listening to the majority of the show, well you could say I used to love listening to the majority of the show, but my attitudes really changed over the past few weeks and months. Ive listened to the show every morning going to work for about 3 years now, and it really is the best breakfast show around.

I think Chris is brilliant, and I dont think ill be alone in saying while people complain he doesnt play enough records, it dont mind in the slightest. I find some of the links he, and Dave, come up with are priceless, and would rather sit and laugh my head off at them, than sit and listen to certain songs.

Anyway im skirting around the real reason for my being here, and its Dom. Now, its clear to see that recently Dom has become more and more involved in everything to do with the show. I used to like Dom when he was there for news, had a bit of banter, but ultimately left the real laughs in the hands of Chris and Dave. But recently, everytime they have a link between records etc, it always seems to come back to something about Dom.

As I said, I think he was funny in his own way when he was used less on the show. But now I really find myself being annoyed at his pretend niavity, and low level humour. This man profresses to be a serious journalist, however, the things he does and say really contradict this.

I know that Dom is no doubt loved on the show by many of the forum users, and ill for sure be in the minority, but after several weeks pulling my hair out on the way to work listen to him, I had to get it off my chest.

But I open it to the forum, and look forward to my certain abuse from the regulars.

Another Scot???
Welcome to the Board SF, and I congratulate you on a well written, well balanced first post...

I very much see what you're saying, the fact that we're having 'too much of a good thing' with Dom all the time, but i still think it works really well. If Dom went back 'into the background' as he was a few years back, I think there would be a gaping hole in the shows chemistry. I sometimes find it weird that he's such a big part of the daily show, then when its Whiley's show at 10 he goes back to a serious news reporter. Its like listening to two different people.

Well, if you're a Scotlander then I wont want to abuse you. God knows we need as many as possible for our rebellion against the engerlish repression.

However this may let you down...

I find him one of the funniest members of the show. I've said this before, the comedy comes from him not meaning to be funny.

Its just a pity you can't quite get the 'talking properly' thing down to a tee yet....

I just find it strange that you scotlanders have the internet.

Haven't you only just been connected to the electricity grid? I found that odd when I realised that, I thought you were all still running around in skirts with blue face paint on hunting haggis.

Now keep quiet, and stay repressed thank you very much.

Scotlands_Finest - is that like Tesco Finest? I mean not quite as good as Wales's Taste The Difference, but maybe a bit cheaper?

Anyway - I think I'm with the majority on this. The show this morning was a case in point - Dom was hilarious. But then I suppose appreciating singing the tag-line to Space Pirates is probably easier when you have a three year old in the car who already knows all the words.

Nah-na na nah nah!

He does do it on Moyles as well, when covering serious news stories (obviously Moyles sometimes jumps in, but on the whole a lot of the news is serious.) I think it's absolutely a valuable skill, especially for a news reader on Moyles, to go from being funny and bantering to being serious in a flash.

I disagree with that, I think he knows exactly what he's doing. He's not silly (well he can be but you know what I mean).

Well theres 6 replies, and I havent been savaged too much, well Ballbag was more along the lines of what I expected :D

I just try to figure out how he has become a major part of the show, with alot of features, or stories used recently being centred around him.

The likes of Who Knows Dom, and Just Ask Dom, maybe im expecting too much, but I just dont buy into the humour of these features. Ok, youll argue they are specifically set up to make Dom look the fool, and more so for us to laugh at him and not with him. But maybe that type of humour is lost on me :D I much prefer Chris and Dave's more sarcastic humour, to Dom's obvious and blatant humour.

The main example of when I was really not amused when they did the whole Liverpool tickets thing for the Porto match at Anfield. I think everyone knew from the word go that Chris had the tickets he was trying to get, and Dom milked that for all its worth. This is my main arguement, Dom is an intelligent enough guy, and witty enough guy, that he doesnt need to act the fool for cheap laughs. I was bored of that link quite quickly that day :?

And dont even get me started on the Space Pirates thing, its just not a good topic.

But the main thing is, no matter how irritating I find Dom at times, it has never made me reach for the dial, and turn it over. I think my opinion is in the minority for sure, but hey, its an opinion, and without it this forum would grind to a halt. It would be rather boring if we loved everything about the show, and never found fault.

So I hope you dont mind me not wearing my " I love Dom " tshirt while im on the forum, ill just stick to the kilt, and saltire face paint!!! 8)

Yea, but we can do it in the dark now - we have installed floodlights on the Cairngorms in order to cath the Haggi.

Ok, Ill concede that he has a cracking sense of humour, but I still find him funny when he doesn't mean it. I'll give the 'toilet adverts' episode as an example.

i think chris wanted him. Along with julliette because of there ability too go from serious too bantery in a flash. He would be a ultimate pro.
A couple of the other d.j's are involving the news reader or sports reader alot more. Obviously chappers is the main one with scott. (although that i think he isn't serious when he does the sports) also the person who does scotts news. The name escapes me. She can go from slightly banterish too serious. Also when i've been up at 4am for work. I've noticed that greg james is involving his news reporter.

I think chris has started a new trend.

George, she was on in the afternoons with Moyles too. I was disappointed when she didn't move to breakfast with the rest of the team, but now I see I was wrong.

I have to agree here. That did go on for too long and unless Dom was preoccupied doing something while this discussion was taking place, he must have known. Perhaps they were padding?

This is a quality Moyles mentions in his first book, and a quality that I love about Dom too. Footy Dom knows exactly what he's doing....legend of a guy! I was listening to the first breakfast show the other day and was dissapointed with the amount of Dom banter.

That's just silly. Don't argue with the master.

I didn't mean that he didn't know what he was doing - I just think sometimes he says things off the cuff and they come out a lot funnier than they were intended.

Another Scot, nice.... do we have enough for a football team yet? Or maybe a 5 a side?

I think over time Dom's become alot better to listen to. The comments and chat between him, Chris and the rest is funny. And especially when he makes amusing little mistakes.....http://chrismoyles.net/soundvault/pafil ... le&id=1567

So I reckon this is why Chris has been giving Dom little features on the show like "who knows Dom" and "ask Dom".

Just my thoughts.

Oooft

Deep breaths there missus! It's a Friday, the weekend is but hours away.

The reason is simple - The rare haggis falls under the scientific classification of 'animalus madeuppus'. The plural of all these animals tend to follow the same rule.
