Is is an 's'; you've got the American dictionary activated. If you right-click on a text-area and go down to languages, you'll be able to see what dictionaries you have installed (and can therefore select the right one) and there'll also be a link to get other dictionaries.

I hate the Fireofx spellchecker sometimes, it Americanises (with an 's' not a 'z') all my proper words, rather it attempts too, I don't let it. I'm too 'patriotic'.
