Your dog has a lovely smile holiday armadillo. And I agree about the dictionary, unless you have enough of a basic education to not need one. W
Which rules out pretty much everyone (in the UK anyway) under the age of 25. And some above that age too.

I'd like to think that excludes me. I could be wrong, but I'd like to think.

Ah but Topher, you made the most of your opportunities, something young people are not required to do any more.

I wouldn't necessarily say that... I pissed about as much as a lot of people at school, but without wishing to sound arrogant, I think my grasp of the English language has always been better than the majority of the people I went to school with (that really does sound arrogant, but to balance, a lot of people's grasp of business, maths and science was better than mine.)

A lot of it is environmental. If you grow up surrounded by articulate people, you are more likely to become an articulate person. If you grow up surrounded my neanderthals and cretins, then you might still be able to grow up articulate, but it will be more of an effort. Either that or it will be a singular type of articulateness. Articulacy? Articulosity? How ironic!

Ridiculously, it just took me about four re-readings to read that as you meant it.

I'd agree with that. I also read a lot as a kid (I mean first school and middle school age), so that certainly would have helped; it sertainly helped my speling.*

* Yes, that was on purpose... a bad joke.

How did you read it, out of interest? I've just been trying to figure it out.

That's perhaps more a local dialect thing, though you're not that far away from here.

Thanks for the dog compliments Yuds! He's every bit as cute as he looks!

This 5 hours time difference in Canada sucks! I miss loads of posts while I'm sleeping.

Holiday Armadillo, are you British and moved to Canada, or were you born there and have family in England? Just out of interest.

I'm British. We moved over here in April this year, so still new to the whole North American thing!
Enjoying it so far, though. Canada is great, the people are friendly and love our accents!!
Not looking forward to winter, though. Six feet of snow is not unusual.

No, they do skiing for PE in the schools in winter I think.

I've got family in Alberta, I've been there twice, it's amazing. Go through the Rockies at some point if you get the chance and haven't already. Quite a way away from you I think, but worth it.

We've not been outside of Ontario yet, it's such a vast country! Yet the Canadian's think nothing of making a 10 hour drive across country!
Definitely want to get to the Rockies, though. Maybe next year........

Yeah, I think that's because it's such a vast country. They think 300 miles is just down the road. They all seem to be very laid back though, which is great.
