The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Just got it off iTunes for about £12 to listen to on my new ipod touch. It sounds a bit weird hearing Chris talk solo without the team... just listening to the first 10mins atm.

Actually proves that TESCO have no idea about book reatail. It's not selling so well guys but I genuinely preferred it to the first one so give it a go.

I don't think there has been as much publicity for this one - not on his show anyways. Last time, he didn't stop going on about it for months but he was obviously told to keep it down a bit this time round.

I was thinking the same... there have been no flat tyres within 50m of paparazzi and no hospital dashes either.

Maybe that's just their top 20, which could be totally different to the Waterstone's top 20, or indeed, the overall top 20?

I know this is totally unrelated, but your post reminded me of this story: a couple of weeks ago, the landlady of the pub was going on about Princess Diana and the car crash. At one point she mentioned that she was being "chased by Pavarotti". She had to be told that Princess Diana was not, in fact, chased by Pavarotti at all.

You know, the name 'Tesco' is not an acronym; the letters don't have to be in capitals.

But outside their shops, and on their products, the name is CAPITALS. This is why I always think of it in this manner. :-)

He wasn't dead at the time Diana was being chased, but I'm reasonably sure he wasn't doing the chasing.

Tesco is called Tesco because the man who invented supermarkets was Terry Scott and he was from the bronx.

Actually (I know you were joking but I'm going to put the serious answer anyway), 'Tesco' is an amalgamation of a particular brand of product (tea I think) that they used to sell and the first couple of letters from the founder's surname.

I've just looked it up (because I'm sad):

Tesco plc | 1950-20s wrote:1924 – The first own-brand product sold by Jack was Tesco Tea – before the company was called Tesco. The name comes from the initials of TE Stockwell, who was a partner in the firm of tea suppliers, and CO from Jack’s surname

1919 – Jack Cohen founded Tesco, when he began to sell surplus groceries from a stall in the East End of London. His first day’s profit was £1 and sales £4

some stores make it up to enhance sales on particular titles they have in copious amounts (supermarkets!)
The rest of us use either the Nielson Booksales data, their own company sales, The Sunday Times bestsellers (although I believe this is also based on Nielson) or an amalgamation of all of them. You will generally find that in proper bookstores the first 10 in the hardback & paperback charts are the same and the rest are based on company sales.

By the way - Thanks Chris, the FACT thing was annoying me too, it was funny the first few times but is now very annoying
