Generic american movie phonenumber-tastic. I believe its a sort of area code or number prefix that never actually works when used?

They do use 555 prefix as it is not an actual area code for anywhere in the states.

However, I have noticed a couple of more recent movies have not used the 555 prefix, and have wondered if either they are using another code that does not exist, or if the are using an actual phone number that if you dial it gives you a pre-recorded message about the movie (like advertising). I am not a big enough geek to write down the number and try it, but I know there are ppl out there who would!

BT actually has a whole bunch of numbers that they give out to TV and film companies that don't work so they look like genuine phone numbers and they can get around that whole crappy American 555 thing.

I heard that 555 was information or something? like dialling the operator or 192 or something?

Too lazy to wikipedia. hey that's gonna be my new signature.

I thought it was the neigh-bour of the beast. Do you see what I did there? I wrote Neigh, cos you're a horse and even though it wouldn't be the actual neighbour, it's funny, cos you see you're a horse and I put Neigh and horses go Neigh.......................

Cathedral bell tolls in the distance.

I've just looked it up and you were right, 555-1212 is one of the numbers for directory inquiries in the USA and Canada.

555 is also the name of an IC timer chip, allowing for monostable, astable and bistable timer based circuits.

I don't know but it's a brand of something, because they sponsor(ed?) the Subaru World Rally Championship team. It probably is tobacco because they tend to get in on the motor racing.

yeah thats what I thought because the British American Racing team (owned by a tobacco company) had it on their liveries too as well as Subaru Rally.

Tobacco advertisings now being cut down in motorsports, as its banned in half the countries on the F1, GP2 and Rally calendars anyways.

Well I thought changing my name to Volguus Zildrohar was going a bit far, so I just quoted from the film instead.

Take slow, deep breaths, Cal. Have a wee sit down. And a nice cup of tea might help as well.

There we go.
