I was thinking exactly the same thing. The whole 'Six Weeks of Summer' thing has been quite boring, even to the point that I'm now skipping over any talk of it. If it has been scrapped thanks to this suspension of competitions then I, for one, am grateful. That said though, I think I heard JK and Joel talking about it earlier and it sounded like it is still on, I guess I'll find out later when I listen to the show (unless anyone wishes to clarify so here).

It's still on for this week, just without any more competition winners. I'm not sure what's happening after this week, I'm guessing they'll find some way of doing it without the competition winners, because it will already be organised for all the DJs to be going where they're meant to be going.

But time will tell, and if you are right then i will take my metaphoric hat off to you, and if I am right you will satisfy my carnal longings, does that seem ok to you ? ( signature space between word and ? )

Can I have your metaphoric hat now please?

Has there been any indication how long this blanket ban with be for? I have a feeling it may be pretty brief.

They haven't said how long for yet, just that it will be until they've reviewed all the competitions etc. I don't think the blanket ban will last too long, but I think it will be a while before everythings back up and running.

Wasn't this mornings revist to songs off of BBC playlists from the 80's so much funnier than Car Park Catchphrase? I was walkign down the street laughing out loud! It was embarassing, but too funny not to laugh.

I was really annoyed when they didn't actually play Queen though! I had just got into full air-guitar mode and everything, and they stopped it!

I like Comic Relief so don't want that scrapped. Children in Need and Sport Relief however can jog on.

There are the occasional gems on Comic Relief that make it worthwhile. Its all the stupid newsreaders singing again on Children In Need and the fact Sport Relief is just tedious.

Well as a licence payer I don't trust the BBC any more. Come to think of it I don't trust any broadcaster that advertises premium rate numbers on the very slim chance that you will be picked to take part.

Just another example of the mainstream media biting the hand that feeds them.

This is all complete and utter rubbish.

The whole thing is about the fact that sometime technology lets you down.

You enter a competition to go on the set of Eastenders, you make the call, you donate to charity, you hope you win.

The service providers looses all the details so the BBC production people make up a winner.

Now what would their choice be ? Either make up a winner or have to admit that the thing was broken, then seek to refund everyone or delay the announcement. seems to me they did the right thing, the straight forward thing, and most importantly the thing which provided the best entertainment for the millions watching.

Who really gives a toss about this ? It's called thinking on your feet and giving the Public what they want, oh and the cheques in the post and I won't ejaculate until you have stopped engaging.

This is pretty much the way I see things on this matter my good Bob-on. In the Independent today theres talk of pots and kettles where the BBC attackers are concerned. When it first came out I wondered why everyone was getting their frillys in a twister about it - this was for charity, people were trying to get into the mood of the night in order to raise loads. It is with contempt that the TV Quiz shows view the British public - I dont believe the BBC sneer at their audiences like ITV have done, for their profit and gain. The BBC is what it is, leave it alone. :(

I think that all the above is true, and the uncompromising action the BBC has taken serves to highlight the considerably greater issues of honesty and accountability in other sections of the media.

Don't talk such utter balls. Admit there was a problem and tell us who won later on. "Best Entertainment for the millions watching"? What? Who finds the winner of a phone in being revealed entertaining? Unless you have won it yourself, nobody. They should have told us there was a "technical difficulty and the winner will be revealed in a future edition". Simple as.

You see I don't Agree, and on watching news Knight last night, this very topic came up, and there the consensus was similar to mine.

I think it was described as BBC engaging in self flagellation, being portrayed as a Russian yelling "beat me beat me" summed it up well for me.

Also do you have to use such strong and offensive terms to offer your opinions "don't talk such utter Balls" etc it really adds little to your post.

Speaking of Balls, does anybody actually play the lottery anymore? Thats a competition with an independent adju-wotsit, and they always tick the boxes before offering their 'just so' seal of approval to proceedings, clammy handshakes an all and then off for a few tipples down the wine bar with whats left of their Saturday nights.
